Door opens about 16" then stops will go down but only opens 16"

Probably a broken torsion spring, if you help lift the door as it is opening, it may open all the way. With the door down and you inside, look at the torsion spring above the door opening on the long rod to left or right of centre. One on each side of centre with a double garage door. If either spring is in two pieces, then you will need to get them replaced or replace them your self.

I installed a Craftsman garage door a couple of weeks ago and all of a sudden it keeps opening by it's self. It is model #139.53918D what is causing this?

Make sure the door isn't closing too far. This will cause it to open. Your opener comes with a warranty. Call Sears repair.

Door closes but opens inmediatelly and partially, only 1 foot and a half

With the garage door up pull the release cord to disingage the garage door it self in the up position. You can skip the disengaging step, But,It saves ware and tear on the motor.

Then using a step stool you will find limit adjusting plastic slots/screws on the side of the opener.

The left screw is for garage door down.

I would turn the left screw clockwise 1/2 turn or less. then activate the remote opener. noting which way the latching mechanism moved. and so on.

It may take a few adjustments with this proceedure to get it perfectly closed. Then activate the remote to re-engage the garage door it self.

Also, LiftMaster has a web site that you can check out.

1.3HP CRAFTSMAN CHAMPION GARAGE DOOR OPENER-NEW IN 2004

Well sounds like its a pressure setting. you said you open the door by hand? Was it easy to do? Ask your self this can a 15 year old kid open it and close it? If so then it sounds like its a presure setting There should be two blue slots on your opener with numbers 1-9 says up and down force. Turn the up force towards the bigger number. Just a little bit. But before you do that as the other guy stated make sure that your cables and springs are working. Spring depending on your doors can be in three places but we going to assume you has the most common set up so look over the top of your door (with it closed) you should eb able to see a tube running across there. and somewhere in the in middle a set of spring look at the spring to make sure that you dont see any of the tube showing in the springs. Becare not to touch the spring as they are under a lot of stress.
