Question about Apple iPhone 3G
Phone was fully charged. Took phone off charger to play a video I recoreded earlier, video started t play and then the screen went black, phone shut off. It will not turn on and I know the battery was almost fully charged (98-99%). Took it to the AT&T store, they looked at it, the manager said he tried everything and could not get it to turn on. He said he has never seen this before. They are receiving iPhones this afternoon and said they will replace it for me when they get one in. My problem is that I had pictures and a video that I had just taken (not synced yet) that will be lost. Any ideas??
I just had the same problem but while filming a video and then pressing stop. You need to "cold boot" (hard reboot) by pressing the home button (center round one) and the start button (top right button) at the same time. Hold both buttons down until you see the apple logo on the screen. Your data should be there. Always go to an Apple Store if you have problems in the future.

Same here... held BOTH buttons down simultaneously and that did it. Battery was fine was just on the counter... Thank YOU all for your posts. Per Best Buy, do not let the battery die or it will take some time to get the battery charged to at least 5%- where it will re-boot/turn-on.

Was watching a video and kept the phone down for a while. Later it will not start. Performed the hard reboot procedure to fix it. Hold home and power button till apple symbol appears.
The question remains, what is causing it to go in such a deep sleep, that it needs cold water .er .. cold reboot!

Wtf I just had the same problem, I started freaking outt once I heard this has happened to others N i just got back from a MMA tournament with VIP catered tickets with a lot of really good footage. The Hard restart worked. But I am still going to get it replaced. My battery was about a 3 quarters used up so I figured it just died from me using it so frequently . But then I put it on the charger for about 20 minutes and nothing happened. Use the Hard restart. Just keep holding it

This can happen with sending too many emails out one after another as well. The phone shut off and I couldn't get it re-started. The re-boot works, thanks for your posts! My 3Gs is only 2 days old, this was making for a bad day!

They will be lost unfortunately, unless you can get the phone to turn on.

SOURCE: My Iphone wont turn on
hold power button and home key as soon as u see apple logo let go of power button but keep holding home key this will put iphone in recovery mode then sync n recover

That happened to me. Push the home and on/off buttons simultaneously until the apple logo appears, then wait until it has fully restored the system. This should work. Good luck
