I was able to use last nite....when i plug it in, its readable but i cannot open...it says it needs to format??? what can i do.....i have sooo much important information...cant loose it..what do i do???

The PDF translates to Portable Document Format. It's intended to be readable on any system using Adobe PDF Reader (free) or other products. That's the advantage of the format compared to Microsoft Word or similar software file formats. Microsoft Word files are not readable in older versions of the software with their default format. Even newer versions of Microsoft Word may not open an older file. This is due to an intentional decision at Microsoft after malware was found in some files sent as email attachments.

Chances are it was formatted as NTFS format by the PC which is not MAC compatible. You will need to reformat the drive in HFS format if you want it to work as a MAC disk only or in FAT32 format if you want to read it in PC and MAC machines.

You will lose all data on this disk using this solution. That is your warning. You did not provide the OS that you are running, so I will assume it is something in the Windows family. Open disk manager and select the external hd. Delete the partitions. Create one large new partition. Format said partition using appropriate filesysetm. If formatting hangs or fails, try it on another machine. If it fails, you could try diagnostics that came with the disk. However, if it fails on two separate machine, I would us it for target practice and get a new one.

There is a program called get data back. This will recover data from a readable flash drive. Even if you have to format the drive to stop the errors and make it readable to windows, you can still recover the data.

Two options.

One. Upgrade to 2007. A bit on the spendy side.

Two. All office products have the ability to Save their documents (etc.) in a format readable by previous versions.

I would ask your friend to open the file, save as a Word 2003 Document and resend the file. No expense, fast, easy.

You ,most likely have a defective door switch or anti-tamper switch, both are the same part, replace the switch.

Attatch it to your laptop via usb and format it/see if its bad
or
Buy a new hard drive and install it then format that hd and have a working ps3..

Are you trying to open a .xls file instead of an .xlsx file? Xlsx is the excel 2007 file format. Another cause could be a lack of free space on your hard drive. Uninstalling the 2003 version or defragging could do it. One last question: XP or Vista? I find Office 2007 works better with Vista. Good Luck! ---- JG
