SOURCE: Kenmore 90 washer won't drain
Check first drain line or water pump to see if they are clogged.
1. Clogged drain line or water pump
Check to see if there's something stuck inside the pump or the drain hose connected to the pump (pump is usually located at the bottom and towards the back of the washing machine).
2. Water Pump
If the drain line isn't clogged, you may have a problem with the water pump such as a frozen pulley or a broken impeller. If that's the case replace the water pump.

SOURCE: Kenmore dryer will not heat
only 2 things can be wrong, the heater element is toast or one of the safety thermostats is fried, most likely it is the heating element. make sure its well connected(while unplugged!!!)

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.
See the Whirlpool parts list for their commercial washers, the consumer model is essentially the same.
The problem is likely either the transmission cover or the gearcase cover seal or the spin pinion seal.
Following is a good description from GURU JSROCK516 Description of how to remove cabinet and access the transmission. http://www.fixya.com/support/r699497-replacing_gearcase
When you pull the transmission, you should be able to tell where it is leaking.
In order to pull off the cover, pull the transmission, remove the clutch (there is a spring clip that holds the clutch on the main agitator shaft, remove the 8 screws carefully the transmission holds 16Oz of oil

The following link explains how to determine the date of manufacture for a Kenmore:
Thank you for providing your serial number. According to the information I provided, your washer was manufactured in July of 1996. Kenmore is manufactured by Whirlpool so this advice does apply. If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
