Boomdog, the problem with your fridge is the temperature control board (where you adjust temps at in the fridge section). I serviced one of these just this week for the same problem! It's working fine now. They'll need to bring a control board with them to finish this job. The part number for it is #8201659. Be glad you won't have to fork over the cash to buy it, the retail cost is ~$165.00. Unfortunately, all of my vendors tell me this board is a factory backorder item. Maybe Sears will have it, maybe not. Also, after the repair is complete, please connect your computer controlled appliance up to a quality surge suppression/arrestor device. We highly recommend this one... http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=124911

SOURCE: kenmore elite refrigerator, model # 59676534500

I went ahead and signed up for Sears' service warranty since I knew I had to get someone to come out.  IT costs $200/yr.  They say it covers everything, but when the technician came out, he told me that it just covers $500 per visit.  He said that a new motherboard and the labor alone was going to make it $498.  Anyway,   he had ordered a new motherboard. Apparently the motherboard wasn't working.  It is located in the back bottom left side of the refrigerator behind the panel.  There is a compartment on the lefthand side that slides out and houses the motherboard.  He put that in and also had to fix the fan that is in the back of the freezer.  That fan is the one that sends cool air up to the refrigerator part. When I had looked at the fan before the repair man came, it was not moving at all.  So at least take a look at the fan in the freezer.  Just take out the freezer drawers, and the fan is located in the top center of the freezer behind the compartment cover.  Maybe that's the problem with your refrigerator, the fan.  Hope that's all it is. Good luck!

How many gallons of water does the Kenmore elite SM9711174 use in each cycle?

Hello Tricia

Ask them direct, but there are a lot of variables in your question like wash size small, medium or large load, programmes, pre-wash or not, and the absorbency of the laundry in the washer.

All new models are energy efficient, so they use as little water as they can which also reduces electricity use. My Whirlpool had a sticker that said it uses about $25 of electricity a year.

Tip

Refrigerator Efficiency

The efficiency of your refrigerator can be much better if you take the time to check out a few things before you buy or do a bit of maintenance on your refrigerator. The maintenance part I have covered in another tip, so I will just stick to the things that you can check when buying a new refrigerator in this tip.

Energy Star refrigerators will save you money. Look for a refrigerator rated with the energy star, when choosing a new model. Efficient refrigerators rated with the energy star are listed on the energy star website.

The style of the refrigerator will also make a difference in the refrigerator electric usage. A side-by-side refrigerator will use more energy then a top freezer model. The refrigerator electric usage is higher for those models with the two side-by side doors. If you look at the energy star list you can also see the energy kWh/year usage and see which models use the most electricity.

Some other things you can do so that your refrigerator work is less, includes checking the door seals, cleaning the condenser coils, checking the thermostat settings, and checking to see if you can turn off the door heaters if your refrigerator has them. Cracked or loose door seals will allow air to circulate outside the fridge, this uses more energy to keep the refrigerator cooling. Dirty condenser coils will cause the refrigerator compressor to work harder to cool the fridge. The door heaters also will make the refrigerator work harder to keep it cool inside. Adjusting the thermostats to 0- 5 degree F for the freezer and 36 -38 degrees F for the fridge side will keep your food fresh and still save energy.

Efficient refrigerators are great but they still need to be taken good care of by cleaning and servicing them regularly. Refrigerator electric is one of the biggest electric usages in most homes. Take some time to check over your refrigerator to help save some money on your electric bill.

I need energy star rating for kenmore refrigerator #795.71309.012

The 795.71309.012 was built by LG for the Kenmore line. You can buy a copy of the Energy Star Rating label from Sears Parts Direct or other appliance parts store for a few dollars. It is part number MEZ62603802; see http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/Kenmore-Parts/Refrigerator-Parts/MEZ62603802/0046/795/Model-79571309012/0582/0161000?keySuffixId=NA&pathTaken=partSearch&pathRender=modelComponent&documentCompId=F1201020&diagramPageId=00004&productTypeId=x&searchModelNumber=79571309012&subCompDesc=Refrigerator%20parts%20%28pantry%29&brandDesc=KENMORE&modelDesc=REFRIGERATOR&blt=11&shdMod= .

Unfortunately the 795.71309.012 is not listed at the EPA Energy Star site any more. (It's no longer qualified due to changes in the energy efficiency requirements.)

I wish that I could be of more assistance.

The motor on the Kenmore refrigerator is running continuously. How do I stop it? I just cleaned out the dust from the coils underneath and replaced the kick-plate at the bottom

Hi: I've dealt with Kenmore for 30 years. Unfortunately the new model numbers don't reveal the age. I must assume it's a newer model. I'm not disputing what you said about it running all the time, but please read on. Oddly enough the new energy efficient referigators run 70 to 80% of the time. They use a smaller compressor without the big amperage start-up. The best I can describe them is that they freewheel alot. The 106......of your model number means it was built by Whirlpool. A very quite and energy efficent refrigerator. If your power bill is high get a meter from your power company, most have them. Just to double check the power consumption. Good luck Jeff

Stopped cooling

Hello cpuklutz
Welcome

You said, Kenmore; 21 cu ft; 10-years old; just stopped cooling; wondering if it even makes any financial sense to get estimate to repair, or is 10 years about it's trouble free length of service

Here is an article that you may find useful and interesting related to your situation.
Repair or replace?

When to pull the plug on your old refrigerator

It nearly always makes sense to undertake simple do-it-yourself repairs,
such as replacing a gasket on a refrigerator or a freezer.

Typically, you'll also find a troubleshooting section for more-serious problems
in the owner's manual.

Should you pay for a repair or buy a new model?
The answer depends mostly on the age of your refrigerator,
how much you bought it for,and the cost of the repair.

Follow these guidelines:

When a repair makes sense.

If your refrigerator is under warranty or less than four years old (three years for top-freezers),
paying for a repair makes sense.
Note that refrigerators under warranty might require service from a factory-authorized technician;
readers have found them on a par with independent repairers.

When a repair might be a wise choice.

If your refrigerator is out of warranty and is four to seven years old,
it might make sense to pay for a repair. Customers generally pay $100 to $200 for a repair.
But you might want to buy a new model even at this stage,
given that today's models are quieter and have added features.
Higher energy efficiency is another plus: Energy Star-qualified models made after April 28, 2008,
are 43 percent more efficient than conventional models built before 2001 and 56 percent
more efficient than those built before 1993.

When it pays to replace.

The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new refrigerator.
Data also shows that it doesn't pay to fix a less-expensive top-freezer refrigerator
six or more years old or a bottom-freezer or side-by-side eight or more years old.

Thanks to better recycling programs, less than 10 percent
of a refrigerator you replace is likely to end up in a landfill.

Thank You, HUUUM

Hello kenmooreMOMMY, ,
Welcome to fixya.
I'm Huuum and happy to assist you,

Huuum At your service!

Like with an error code.
This can reset the system.
For starters unplug the washer and wait a 5 minutes then restart it.
If you can't reach the plug, use the breaker to cut the power for 5 minutes.

It's like rebooting your computer when its acting strange!
Usually it corrects some error problems if they are not serious.
Or they are sometimes just a glitch.
But in my opinion it is most likely a switch problem in the control board.

let me know how it works out.

How old is the appliance?

Here is an interesting report I just read.

Gas dryer

Hi Mette-q,
Welcome to fixya.com

I'm Huuum,

You said, you have a Kenmore gas dryer mod. 110.95087400 ser. ms0201135 it's a smartheat quiet pak9. Is there anyway I could convert this from natural gas to electric, is there a conversion kit available.

They do have conversion kits for gas to LP.
But I believe that there is no gas to electric.
You must find a gas line from some where in the home and run it to your location, or buy an electric dryer.
Remember that if you can run a gas dryer it will save you 30% on your energy bill over electric and in time pay for the cost of running the gas line to it.
I hope you are not in an electric only house!

How old is the dryer?? Waiting for your response!
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to help!
