No temperature control on hot plate elements. Is this fixable?


ADJUST OVEN FLAME LEVEL: Normally, thermostats are calibrated by pulling the oven's thermostat knob off, turning the knob over and adjusting the calibration ring on the back. If your oven doesn't have a calibration ring you may need to replace the thermostat. The reason for my free advice is GOD is good!

How to calibrate oven?


Sometimes the oven thermostat or oven sensor can be calibrated wrong, or it may be faulty. If your particular range has an oven that uses an electronic thermostat, and the oven temperature is off by tens of degrees, you probably have to replace it.
On most units that have a mechanical thermostat, you can actually remove the thermostat knob, and adjust the knob to more accurately represent the actual setting of the thermostat. On many models, there's a screw on the back of the knob with a small calibration plate or ring. You can loosen this screw and adjust the calibration plate. Remember to tighten the screw again. If yours isn't adjustable, and the temperature is off by a large amount, you should just replace the thermostat.

Oven will not reach temperature set


Get an accurate thermometer. Look on the oven control, there will be a calibration screw. It takes a while, but with small adjustments and accurate temp measurements, you can calibrate the control.

Hello.

When baking or cooking common foods in your oven, it is important that the oven heats to the proper temperature. Otherwise, the food in your oven could become over- or undercooked. The electric ovens are able to be calibrated if only slightly off, however, if the temperature is 25 degrees off or more, you should replace the oven sensor. The oven sensor is the device in the oven the detects the temperature. The control board increases or decreases the oven temperature, depending on the oven sensor reading. Before calling a repair technician, attempt to calibrate your oven or change the oven sensor.

Instruction

1 Turn on the oven and set the temperature to a medium-heat setting, such as 350 degrees.

2 Allow the oven to preheat and then open the door and insert the oven thermometer.

3 Allow the oven thermometer to remain in the oven for a few minutes and the look at the temperature reading, comparing it to the oven temperature setting.

4 Recalibrate the oven if the temperature is only slightly off, or replace the oven sensor if the temperature is greatly off, such as 25 degrees or more.

Calibrating the Oven

1 Turn off the oven to prior to calibrating.
2 Press and hold the "Bake" button until the calibration settings are displayed on the display.

3 Use the arrow buttons or "+" and "-" buttons to adjust the temperature the number of degrees that the oven is out of calibration.

4 Press the "Start" button to save the calibration settings.

Replacing the Oven Sensor

1 Unplug the oven from the wall or cut the power to the oven in your breaker panel.

2 Open the oven door and remove the oven racks.

3 Locate the oven sensor, located at the top-center of the rear oven wall.

4 Remove the mounting screw securing the oven sensor to the wall and then pull the oven sensor away from the wall.

5 Remove the cable connected to the terminal on the rear of the oven sensor and then discard the oven sensor.

6 Connect the cable to the terminal on the new oven sensor and then reposition the oven sensor and secure it using the mounting screw.

7 Replace the oven racks and then restore power to the oven.

Bake element will not shut off at set temp.


You need to check the oven cycle relay,
  1. Before repairs or testing can begin you must disconnect the electricity at the fuse panel, at the circuit breaker panel, or by pulling the plug. Make sure the power is off before proceeding. A jolt from 220 volts can be fatal, use caution!
  2. In order to gain access to the oven cycling relay, refer to your owner's manual. Removing the back panel of the range accesses most relays, but some ranges locate the relay under the oven compartment where the utility drawer is usually located.
  3. Now you can test the relay using your VOM. First, label each wire attached to the relay and remove them from the relay terminals. Using your VOM's ohmmeter function, set the range to R x 1 and touch one test lead to the terminal marked L and the other test lead to terminal H2. There should be NO continuity. Next, test the terminals marked H1 and H2. Again, there should be NO continuity. Finally, test the S and R terminals. Continuity should exist between these two terminals. If your relay does not pass all these tests, it is defective and should be replaced.
  4. To remove the relay, undo the two screws securing it to the range and replace with the correct new relay. Refer to your wiring diagram and labeled wires to ensure that the wires are on the correct terminals. Now replace the back panel or drawer and test the oven.
Then you check the oven thermostat: When testing the thermostat switch contacts for continuity, refer to the wiring diagram and remove only those wires being tested - and only one pair at a time. Test switch contact terminals as per your wiring diagram. If the switch lacks continuity at any of the contact terminal points then the entire thermostat switch needs to be replaced. Adjusting the thermostat: Test the oven temperature by placing the tester in the oven's center and leaving it for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Record the minimum and maximum temperatures of three cycles, then add those figures together, divide the result by six and you have the oven's average temperature.
If the average temperature is more than 25 degrees off, try calibrating the thermostat by following your appliance manual instructions for thermostat calibration.
Normally, thermostats are calibrated by pulling the oven's thermostat knob off, turning the knob over and adjusting the calibration ring on the back. If your oven doesn't have a calibration ring you may need to replace the thermostat.
To remove the thermostat: Disconnect the capillary tube and push it through the back oven wall, being careful not to break the flammable capillary tube wire. Remove the screws that secure the thermostat to the control panel and gently pull the thermostat out, leaving the wires in place. To install a new thermostat, reverse the disassembly procedures (Step 7 above), transferring the wires individually from the old unit to the new.

CANNOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO CALIBRATE THE OVEN. OVEN TEMPERATURE IS OFF 50 DEGREES. INSTALLED A NEW THERMACOUPLE. THIS DID NOT HELP THE PEOBLEM. OVEN WAS PURCHASED IN 1992. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.


Without the Model Number I can only give you Basic instruction.

If your machine is Digital the best way to calibrate if find the manuel of your machine useing your Model number.

Some of the digital models : select bake and press and hold the up or down Temp button for 5 Sec to enter the calibration mode.

Some models require you do get the temp to over 400 deg befor you can enter the Calibration mode.

If your machine has a turn knob ... Take the knob off and see if there is a small screw in the center... This is the calibration screw.

Oven shuts down before reaching correct temperature


You will need to check the oven calibration using a thermocouple based thermometer(the one you stick in the oven is not reliable). Electric ovens should keep a near constant tempature so if you have it set to 350 the oven should stay around 350 once temp is reached. Now gas ovens are a little different. Most use a on/off thermostat and that means the temp can vary from 320 degrees to 370 degrees to keep an average tempature of 350. So if it is a gas oven you will need to let it warm-up for 10 minutes then start taking the lowest and highest 5 consectutive readings. Then add the 5 reads together and then divide the number by 5 and it should be within 10 degrees of the set tempature. If it is off by more than 50 degrees then you might not be able to get it back to proper calibration. The calibration methods are different for each range and depend on the type of thermostat you have digital(push button controls) or manual(knob). The owner's manual for your range might contain the instructions or consult the manufacture's website for the instructions.

I need to calibrate an electric oven


Probably. There is often a key sequence that will enable a calibration mode. We need the full model number to find the tech info, or you can probably find it in the tech sheet which is normally taped on behind the control panel.

Thermostat calibration?


It's on page 32 of the manual for Thermador's built in convection ovens. 1. turn off the oven 2.touch and hold the start pad and then touch the bake pad 3. 0 (zero) appears in the temp digits. release all pads 4. touch bake and 0 changes in increments. max adjustment is 35 degrees F. 5. to complete change touch start for lower oven on double ovens do this: touch the roast pad instead of the bake pad continue with steps 3-5.
