SOURCE: Centrios Atomic Desk Clock/Temperature

Here is how you adjust the time zone:
1.) push MODE till "AL" appears after the minute.
2.) tap "SET" (tap means push but do not hold) and time zone will advance.

3.) THE TRICK: The Time Zone can only be set in the Alarm Mode. Make sure you so not push and hold "SET" until the hour flashes as you would to set the alarm time. You just go into Alarm Mode and tap "SET" to advance the Time Zone by one zone per tap. When the Time Zone is where you want it, tap MODE to return to the clock and set the correct time.

Hold the time set key in until the time flashes. Now let it go and use the tuning forward and back keys to set the time. I had the same problem because I continued to hold the timeSet button down while trying to adjust it. If you do, the forward/back keys have no effect.

SOURCE: Clock and date troubles - Acer Aspire 5680

Richard the RTC battery needs to be replaced.
Real Time Clock battery. This is just like a CMOS battery used in a desktop computer, but the small round, watch style battery, (CR2032) is in a 'pouch' like holder.

The holder is a little bigger than the battery itself, and looks like a plastic pouch with two wires coming out, to a small white plug.

It's located under a bottom panel cover of the laptop. Certain screws have to be removed to remove the panel, then you can access the battery holder. (AFTER AC adapter, {Charger}, and battery has been removed FIRST! Also you have to work on a table, and should wear an anti-static wrist S T R A P. Connect the alligator clip to a good ground source)

I realize this may all look like I'm typing a foreign language here, so I would like to give you this link for an Acer Aspire 5762WMLi.
The information is in a forum, and it is two photos that I'm referring to. The info in the forum concerns resetting the BIOS, but I just would like you to view the photos, not the BIOS resetting information,

http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=40292

The two photos are at the bottom of the page.

Clock in computer will not maintain time and date

Yes it very probably is the CMOS battery, time is kept counting electric pulses, when the computer is turned on there is power and memory to do this, but when it is turned off it relays on the battery to keep this an some other settings, maybe you're receiving a warning at boot time. Check this guide for replacing such batteries:

Clock not keeping correct time

The CMOS battery keeps the laptop configuration stored in the CMOS chip and the main battery has no effect on the CMOS.
If the date and time drift off, it indicates the CMOS battery is nearly flat and needs to be replaced.
If you had ticked the Daylight saving box in the Time Zone tab in Control Panel - Date and Time setting then the time would automatically adjust for Daylight saving.

Also,

If you have lost the outside temperature on the clock display after replacing the transmitter battery then do the following:

1. Make sure you have good batteries installed in the remote transmitter
2. Remove the batteries from the main clock and keep them out until the clock display disappers.
3. Re-install the batteries in the clock.
4. Wait until the display returns and includes the outside temperature display as well.
5. Set the clock again for current time/date etc.
6. Bingo. You are in business.

Having to reset date and time

Solution: Replacing the date battery PowerShot A510 and A520

Replacing the Date Battery If the Date/Time menu appears when the camera power is turned on, the date battery charge is low and the date and time settings have been lost. Please purchase a lithium coin battery (CR1220) and replace it as follows.
Please note that the first date battery may appear to expire relatively quickly after you purchase the camera. This is because it is installed in the camera at the point of manufacture, not when you make the purchase. caution_a70.gifBe particularly careful to keep the date batteries out of the reach of children. Seek medical assistance immediately if a child swallows a battery since corrosive battery fluids could damage the stomach or intestinal wall.
  1. Confirm that the camera is turned off.

  2. Open the terminal cover and use your finger nail to pull out the battery holder.

    date_battery_1.gif

  3. Pull open the battery holder in the direction indicated by the arrow (1). Remove the battery by pulling it up in the direction indicated by the arrow (2).

    date_battery_2.gif

  4. Insert a new battery with the ( ) side facing up.

  5. Replace the battery holder back and close the terminal cover.

  6. When the Date/Time menu appears, set the date and time.

note_icon_a70.gif After purchasing the camera and turning on the power for the first time, although the Date/Time menu will appear, you do not need to replace the date battery. If you ever dispose of your camera, first remove the date battery for recycling according to the recycling system of your country.

Wrong date on the radio.

RESETTING THE CLOCK AFTER A TOTAL MEMORY LOSS

If you do not change the built in lithium battery within a reasonable period of time after you see the ‘flashing’ LOW BATT. warning indicator, the lithium battery may become exhausted and will no longer be able to supply back up power to the SmartSet internal computer.

If the unit is disconnected from the AC outlet after the battery is exhausted, or if a power interruption occurs, the SmartSet memory will be lost and the clock will need to be reset when the power is restored. Be sure to install a fresh lithium battery before you reset the clock, otherwise the clock will need to be reset each time the power is interrupted.

If the lithium battery is exhausted and you experience an interruption in the AC power supply, the clock will reset itself to its initial default setting when the power is restored.

The initial default setting is “12:00 AM, Saturday, January 1
(1 1), 2005”.

If you notice that the time on your SmartSet clock radio is completely incorrect, and the day indicator is also wrong, press the MONTH/DATE button to see the date. If the date display is showing “1 1” (January 1 ), you probably experienced
a total memory loss. To reset the clock after a total memory loss, proceed as follows:

1.) Install a new CR2430 lithium battery in the battery compartment.

2.) Connect the radio to your AC outlet and let the clock set itself.

3.) Depress the MONTH/DATE and TIME buttons together. The display will change from ‘time’ to ‘year’. While holding the MONTH/DATE and TIME buttons, press the UP button to
set the display to the correct year, then release the buttons.

4.) Depress the MONTH/DATE button. The display will change from ‘time’ to 'month/date’ (mm/dd). While holding the MONTH/DATE button, press the UP button to set the display
to the correct month and date. The Day indicator will change automatically as you adjust the month/date settings. When the correct month and date appear on the display, release the buttons.

5.) Depress the TIME button and the UP button to set the display to the correct time. Be sure to confirm that you have set the time correctly to ‘AM’ or ‘PM’ by observing the AM indicator.

6.) After you set the time, reconfirm that the Day, and Month/Date displays are still correct. Make final adjustments if necessary.

The SmartSet clock memory is now reset and the new lithium battery will maintain it for the next 5 to 8 years, depending on the number and duration of the power outages you experience.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
After resetting the clock, don’t forget to reset your wake up times, and alarm mode settings, and sleep timer settings as well.
