I have a Yamaha receiver htr-3065 that just went dead. Was working fine. I was playing iPhone thru USB port as I had hundreds of times before. I checked all wires, unplugged/plugged all speakers. Hit/held STRAIGHT, turned on and off button, still nothing. Any idea? AND, if i have to buy new receiver, can it work with woofer/speakers that came with initial Yamaha receiver?

The unit has a kill switch to protect it from power surges. If it spikes 3 times it kills the receiver. But it's nothing to fix. You just need to press the button named "Straight" and then the Power button, and she'll light straight back up...!!!
I bought mine from a garage sale for $10 because the guy said it was dead. I've been building and repairing PC's for 20 years so I asked in what way? He said no power, so I said beauty, I'll take it, lmao...!!!

Is the unit 100% dead or just part of it and yes you can use the same speakers if wired corrrectly.

SOURCE: Playstation 3 audio connection into Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver

Solved problem with Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver. My daughter had inadvertently changed the program to "Direct Stereo" mode which allows sources to bypass the decoders and DSP processors so you can listen to 2-Channel PCM and Analog sources. Nothing to decode digital audio in this setting!

SOURCE: Yamaha HTR-6130 Front right and left speakers with no sound

As simple as this sounds, try hitting the speaker a/b button on the front of the unit, next to the headphone jack. I had the same problem, and was about to package the whole thing back up and go back to Best Buy when I hit this button and then the audio test worked.

SOURCE: Yamaha RX-V1400 receiver powers off, in case it becomes louder

Hey, yeah that can be frustrating.

When you turn it up do you hear the relay or a clicking sound, then you turn it on and it comes back below the +2db?

Try unplugging All the speaker wires from the unit. Turn on the unit and listen for the click.
after the click, turn it up past the 2+ db mark and see if you hear it click or shut down. If it did not click off, then suspect a shorted crossover on one of your speakers.
2nd test is to plug in One speaker, and test it at high volume, it will not harm it. If it shuts off disconnect that speaker and try another. Only one at a time.
If it works at high volume, you need to isolate one of your speakers and i bet it has a shorted crossover that has been cooked. P.S. If one is bad, suspect they will fail at a later date.
If they all fail, use a friends speaker and try it before sending it to a repair shop.

P.S. i found one on ebay i think you can get for under $100 bucks in the box.

Yamaha HTR-5240 Receiver channels are mixed up

Sounds like your input switching IC is bad. THis is a shop job, major solder work and most likely a parts order. All the inputs tie into 1 intergrated circuit"ic" and the microprocessor see the signals and switches the output on this IC when you change inputs and when this IC goes bad you can have an outward symptom of not switching, only 1 input works or 2 or more inputs on at the same time. If this receiver cost several hundred dollars it's worth repair if less expensive unit you may want to look around for a new unit
