There is a capacitor in the motor winding that fails and causes the motor to not start, just hum. It will need to be replace. You will have to get into the machine and get to the capacitor and remove it, it will be right nest to the motor. The cap has ratings on it. You can take it to a motor shop and they can replace it, or buy one on line from grainger.com. It has a micro-farad rating (uF) and a voltage rating on it. Go by those two ratings to replace it.

Sometimes the soap dispenser does not open. How do I clean the white hard substance off of it?

Sometimes the soap dispenser is blocked by a large item. It could be a casserole dish, baking pan, etc. Be very aware as you load your lower shelf so that there in nothing that will block the action of the dispenser.
To remove the white build up, run a regular cycle when the dishwasher is empty. Instead of using detergent, use 1/2 cup of white vinegar. This should break down the white scale. After the final rinse, if there is still evidence of the scale, use an old toothbrush to scrub it off.
I hope this helps you. If it does, please come back to Fixya and rate my advice!

Dishwasher soap still in door after wash cycle, so dishes are not very clean. Soap dispenser cover is sprung open but soap (on both sides, wash and prewash) is still mostly where it was poured, only now...

Check for the right amount of water in tub. In this unit close to the lip of the tub after fill. If water fill is correct check movement of lower spray arm. Other possibilities delayed action of dispenser from defective wax motor. Most probable is wash motor. Start unit after fill and when was starts, open door and see if water is being pushed to the top rack and dripping from the top of tub. Motor is easy to install.

I have a Grohe soap dispenser and it has quit working for me. It is as if it gets stuck after you push it down and it seems to leak the soap out of the bottom part of the dispenser getting soap all over...

Sounds like there might simply be old soap caked on the inside of the dispenser head and feed tube. Best thing to do is have a sink filled with HOT water and just put the head portion in there to soak for a while. This should loosen the old soap enough to either dissolve or at least get it moving again. You can also take what soap is still in the dispenser out and put in another container, taking time to rinse the container with hot water as well and then filling it with hot water as well to test the pump action of the head, again using this action to help clean the insides of the pump. Short of this doing the trick, it may just be time for a new one. Good luck.

Our front loading washing machine does not dispense the bleach or fabric softener. both compartments are clean and properly installed. How are they supposed to work???

There is an arm that connects the soap dispenser to the timer .(assuming your washer is a mechanical timer.) This arm moves according the the timer movement. As the program is selected,so will the soap compartments be selected automatically which inturn dispences the softener and or powder. Thing to remember, if you decide to forward the program for any reason, you will also in effect miss that part of the program which could require the softener. If it is a fully automatic unit with an electronic board, all this is done by solonoid switching.

Cleaning Cycle not Starting

Please provide the model number and the approximate age of the dishwasher.
If this diswasher uses a turning dial to select the cycle, which turns as the dishwasher progresses, I strongly suspect that this timer has failed and needs replacement. Especially since the soap door never opens. Does the dishwasher drain during and at the end of the full cycle?

Soap dispenser door doesn't open during cycle of my Maytag dishwasher

Kqon, looks like your dispenser has a wax motor. I think the first thing you have to do is remove the inner door and inspect the soap dispensor assy. See if any of the moving parts are broken. This wax motor is 120V so you can run a cheater cord to it to see if it works, but be very careful when doing this. It will expand the plunger and open the flap. If the wax motor operates with 120V applied to it then you want to see if you have power coming from the timer. It will be the tan wire # 27 on the timer harness. You also want to make sure the spring and pin are in place on the dispenser flap. Your part number for the wax motor is 902899. Catriver.

Dishsoap stays in soap dispenser

ok, either a spring, trigger prob, on the latch, or a electronic prob. ok so to see if the latch is ok (or not) look closely for soap residue and scum, that may be hindering the latch or spring under. use metho, and warm water to clean this part. secondly go down to a white goods repair place and take your electrical component, button, lights its all one unit, simple unscrew it, i do think you will need a set of torque screws for that tho... anyhow ask the guy to get you a new or second hand one and install it. the timer will run, and the clip will release. good luck!
