Question about Kenmore 756A-30BH Mechanical Sewing Machine

1 Answer

When I start sewing my needle stops

Further investigations shows that the thread is bunching in the bobbin compartment. When I turn the wheel manually it looks like the dish holding the bobbin is going to lift out of the machine.

Thanks for the help. I went back to the machine and as I looked more closely the thread had jumped out of one of it's postitions in threading. Were a go again. Thanks again

The bobbin basket will turn slightly causing the thread from the top to bunch at that spot and sewing the fabric loosely with lots of extra thread. I have tried removing the face plate and bobbin basket to oil all the parts. It also seems to be momentarily fixed when I re-thread the top thread. I cannot go one stitch without this happening, when it used to be rare. This machine is about 6 years old, but I can remember it happening a while after its purchase. I have also checked all the settings for length and width and how tight the thread is held, but nothing seems to keep the thread from bunching.

You may be using a wrong bobbin size or you have lint ( fabric fuzz) clogging up the bobbin compartment. Take a pipe cleaner and clean under all the boobinholder sides to clean out. Sometimes even the bobbin getting wound from the spool can wind uneven and create this problem.

Brother LS-2125 bunches bobbin thread then won't sew.

Check your stitch sample. Dollars to donuts it's the top thread bird nesting (also called thread nesting) under the fabric. Issues appearing under the fabric is usually top thread related. Problems appearing on the top of the fabric is usually bobbin thread related.

Remove the top thread from your machine.
Be sure to start with a brand new needle.
ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread the top.

Thread keeps bunching up under needle plate.

hi Virginia.
you have not said what make you have.
but this is all i could find out.
Make sure your bobbin is threaded properly along with the top thread. It would help to know which machine you have. Mine has only one way to put the bobbin in so it will work okay, but I have had the thread miss the take up lever and it acted the same way (top thread). Keep trying.
Is it bunching as you first start sewing a seam? Try hold the bobbin thread and the top thread lightly when you first start your seam.
If you look at how the stitch is made, you'll see that the bobbin and top thread are interconnected, without a bobbin thread, you don't have a stitch. Check out the link below to see how a machine makes the stitch. It's pretty cool.
Are you bringing the bobbin thread to the surface before trying to sew? To do this, manually turn the wheel on the end of the machine so that the needle drops down into the bobbin race, while holding onto the tail of top thread. Bring the needle back up so that it's as high as it will go. Now pull on the tail of the top thread and it should bring up a loop of the bobbin thread. Pull up the loop so that the tail of the bobbin thread is up. As Marion said, you need to hold onto these tails when you start your seam, or the bobbin thread will get pulled down into the bobbin again and cause the snarling that you are having.

When I have the thread bunching underneath, it is usually the upper tension that needs tweaking. Also, be sure that your needle is the right size and nice and sharp. A dull needle can really gum up the works.
When mine has done that it usually has lint under the bobbin case. Have you cleaned under and around the bobbin?
Make sure your bobbin is feeding off in the right direction.
I have just recently learned this. When you are threading your machine, make sure the needle and the presser foot are both in the up position. I am betting that would fix your problem.
I use to have this problem often. [sorry for the simplicity of this answer but it works for me] the needle goes up and down, when it starts it downward motion stop. this should be the position of the needle when you start to sew. hope this helps
or this link might help you out some more.

As you sew thread bunches up in bobbin compartment

Generally, you need to rethread your machine on top. You should probably take the bobbin out and see if it is wound properly. You should change the needle too.

New Singer 1507- handwheel is stuck.

The bobbin might have a bunch of thread off it inside the compartment here the bobbin is. Also, make sure it's thread correctly, that can goof things up to.

I have a Bernina Activa 130. I tried to sew over some leather, started fine, then the needle got stuck and I stopped right away. Now, the bottom threads keeps bunching. I have re-threaded the machine, new...

You need a fatter needle. The skinny needle will not open the leather enough for a smooth flow of thread and that's why the bobbin is bunching up when the top thread is sticking. Make it easier on your machine by using an appropriate size needle while sewing leather.

I have a Singer Touch and sew 600e, the bobbin thread is all bunched up and machine jams up with thread. How can I fix this? Is there a simple setting that I am missing.

try changing the needle
rethread the machine top & bobbin
make sure the bobbin is inserted correctly in the bobbin case
make sure the top thread is not coming off the thread take up lever
make sure the bobbin is wound correctly
if these suggestions don't work, I suggest that you take the machine
to a sewing machine shop to have it checked

I am sewing scout badges on a uniform and when I sew there is a bunch of needle thread bunched up on the bottom (the top looks fine). And the needle thread gets all caught up around the bobbin.

Clean out the bobbin area if there are any thread tangles there.

Refer to the maintenance section of the manual - see the configuration of the bobbin case and shuttle race? The bobbin case as an extending arm and the race a notch. When inserting the bobbin case into the shuttle, turn the handwheel so the needle is at it's highest position. Then lift the lever on the back of the bobbin case and insert the cast into the shuttle, arm pointing straight up toward the bed of the sewing machine.

Now thread the machine with the presser foot up - always - and see if the tangling stops.

When you forget to lift the presser foot before threading the machine, the tension control does not open to capture the thread. Then when you begin to sew, the top thread has no tension, and the bobbin thread, which does have tension, pulls the top thread to the bottom in messy loops.

The fabric gets pulled down into bobbin compartment and thread gets all bunched up hard to remove

It sounds like your bobbin compartment might be pulled out of alignment. You might want to take the bottom plate off, clean off any lint and threads, and put the bottom compartment back in. Follow your manual if you have it. With your right wheel, slowly start to sew is the top or bottom thread having problems? You may have to rethread top and bottom. I found that one time, my top thread was not threaded correctly.
