Trial versions are free for 1 month
you bought the unit at a sale so if the trial version was installed , the free period is well over so you have to pay or uninstall
next point warranty is from day of sale . not day of manufacture so discuss that with the shop because for them to deny warranty full period means that it is not new but second hand and all you got was the remainder of the warranty period
In other words , you have been had
you can get brand new 1T hard drives for less than $90.00

SOURCE: Western Digital External Hard Drive Won't Boot Up

Take it our of the external encasing and plug it in directly to your motherboard. This has worked for me in the past. I just had my second wd external harddrive crash so now I will do the same process all over again.

PC nor reading external WD (Western Digital) USB hard drive

Try connecting it to another computer, to see if your computer is the problem.

Try a different USB cable between the unit and your computer.

If it is still under warranty (one year?) then contact W.D. to get an RMA (Return Materials Authorization) -- then, ship the unit to them, for repair/replacement.

If the warranty has expired, open the case, disconnect the USB-to-disk-drive adapter, and connect the disk-drive as a "slave" drive in some desktop computer, to see if it can be properly "detected".

Note that W.D. has a "Customer Loyalty" program -- give them the serial-number from the disk-drive, and you get a good discount on the purchase of a new Passport from their web-site.

1 TB External drive, unable to open (data of 80% is there)

You can't format without loosing data. You should get a professional data recovery company to look at the drive. http://techrxgb.com is my recommendation.

My computer does not recognize my WD external drive

You've tried different USB cables; so, that cannot be the problem.

You've tried connecting to different computers; so, the problem is _not_ your computer.

What's left is "inside" the case:
* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter,
* the disk-drive.

Open the case, and remove the disk-drive, and connect it as a "slave" drive to some computer.
If it is detected, then the USB-to-disk-drive adapter that has failed.
If it not detected, then the disk-drive itself has failed.

FInd the serial-number on the Western Digital disk-drive, and enter it onto Western Digital's web-site, on the "check-warranty" page. If it's older than 3 years, the warranty probably has expired, unless you were "lucky" and got a 5-year warranty.

Western Digital has a "Customer Loyalty" program -- just buy a new Passport through their web-site, and cite the serial-number, and you'll get a significant discount on _their_ price (could be higher than your local retail computer-store) for a new (probably larger) Passport.
