Turn off the computer and unhook the cables and connectors. Place the computer on a flat work surface and open the access side of the case.
Use the flashlight to locate the white tag with the bar code. It will be somewhere near the memory slots or the PCI white slots on the motherboard.
Record the alphanumeric value from the bar code sticker. The part number will be the second value. For example, the number on the sticker for a Dell Dimension 2400 is CN-OG1548-70821-36C-E01D. The part number is the second set of numbers, or OG1548. Use this number to find compatible replacement or upgrade parts.

This will tell what brand and number your mainboard has.
