Hi,

This is a general issue with the DSL modems. Most of the DSL modems have the same IP address as of the Routers. This is a case of NAT behind NAT which can be resolved by changing the IP address of the Linksys router.

Make sure that the TCP/IP on the Ethernet adapter of the computer should be set to automatic option.

Do not connect the DSL modem to the computer or to the router. And just connect a Ethernet cable between the linksys and the computer.

Access the linksys page using the IP address of http://192.168.1.1
login using username as blank and password as admin

Under setup click on basic settings. Under Internet Connection Type set it to Automatic Configuration DHCP. Let the other values be as default and under Local IP Address set it to 10.0.0.1. Subnet mask will be 255.255.255.0 DHCP server be enabled.
Under starting IP addess set it as 10.0.0.100
For Static DNS 1 set it as 4.2.2.2 Static DNS 2 as 4.2.2.1
Set your time Zone and click apply.

Now turn off the router and connect the modem to the internet port on the router. Turn on the modem first and when the lights on the modem show up then turn on the router. Once the router is on then check for internet connection.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

If I have helped you, please help me, and rate this suggestion the highest FixYa rating. If you cannot rate this post with the highest rating, then please comment to this post and I will try to help you further.

I just switched from cable modem to dsl modem..dsl modem gets on the internet when connected directly to computer..once connected to router doesnt connect to internet

Your new ISP is DSL. the router was working before with the cable modem. The settings for the cable and DSL ISP are different. Now your computer is working when you connect it directly to the DSL modem. that means the modem is working.
The DSL modem works on 2 different modes.
You will need to check which mode is your modem working on and according to the settings of your modem you will need to set up the router.
To change the settings of the router, you will need to open the set up page of the router.
Click Here for more information about the router set up.

If you connect the computer directly to the modem, does it work?
If that works then the modem is working.
Now connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
You will need to open the set up page of the router to check the settings of the router.
You can set up the router without the CD also.
It is very easy.

Upgraded dsl modem to westell G-90-610015-20 and my linksys WRT54G router cant get an IP address. I just upgraded the modem from and older westell model, didn't change any of the settings and it can't get...

if you connect the computer directly to the modem, without any router , does it work?
Make sure that your computer will be online when connected to the modem.
If you are not online through the modem, then you should have the correct user name and password for the ISP.

DSL line disconnects on WRT54GS only

Try to change the LAN IP address of your router to 192.168.2.1 by accessing the router's Setup page. You also need to set your Westell modem to "full-bridge mode". You need to ask assistance from your ISP to bridge the modem. After that, set-up the Linksys router to PPPoE then power cycle it.

Cant connect to internet using linksys with att dsl modem

Your router was configured for Cable Modem which is usually DHCP
Now you need to change it for DSL modem. This means you have to change WAN setting from DHCP to PPPoE and enter your Username and Password for DSL service (should have been provided by your ISP)
Some DSL modems that are also routers need to be accessed directly first and have their configuration changed to "passthrough". This means that DSL modem should not be handeling PPPoE login but rather should let your router do the login.

Cant get to internet thru linksys etherfast cable/dsl router

Reset the modem while the router is plugged into it. Do this by disconnecting the power to the modem and then reconnecting.

Hi,

Try the DSL modem directly connected to the PC.No D-Link Router(powered off and disconnected). Verify that the PCcould surf/browse/connect to the Internet. Go to Start, Control Panel,Network Connections, right click Local Area Connection, Properties, scroll down to/highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Properties button.Get the IP Add, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS assigned to the PC(write this down. This will be your WAN/Internet IP settings). Then Disable DHCP of your modem if it has one. OK, close, save or whatever is applicable.

Disconnect the DSL modem from the PC. Connect D-Link Router to PC (wired/LAN) without the modem connected to the router.Go again to Start, Control Panel, Network Connections, right clickLocal Area Connection, Properties, scroll down to/highlight InternetProtocol(TCP/IP), Properties button. Tick "Use the following IPaddress". Enter this IP Add 192.168.0.10, Subnet Mask255.255.255.0,Default Gateway 192.168.0.1 and the DNS from what youhave written down earlier). This will be your LAN IP settings. OK,close, save or whatever is applicable.

Open a browser and log into the D-Link router (192.168.0.1, using "admin" as a username and no password). Do not run Wireless Network Setup Wizard. In WAN/Internet/Modem setting of router enable/check Static IP Add.Usethe IP numbers previously assigned to PC that you have written down asthe router's WAN/Internet/Modem IP settings. OK, close, save orwhatever is applicable. Reboot router. Connect DSL modem to router.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Lost internet connection

Change the calbe from the router to the dsl modem. Make sure you check labels on the rear of these devices to make sure the connections go where indicated. Is there and ethernet light on your modem. If that is on then the connection is made. Also check if the DSL modem works directly connected to the pc.
