Question about Admiral AW22 Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Admiral designer series, heavy duty 20 lb washer.

The washer won't agitate or spin. It just fills up and hums. I finally had a few minutes to follow your instructions, I opened the top and took the front off, and I may be missing something, but I don't see a belt. I see the tub with a post coming out of the center and it swivels all around. It is held in check by 3 springs. and then I see the motor. It is located in the front right corner (when looking at the machine). Wherever I am not looking, please straighten me out. I really appreciate this. If there's any way I can fix this on my own, I need to do it, as there is no way I can afford to replace it.

If one end of the motor is connected to the drum of the washing machine that is where your problem lies There is a gear inside of the housing connecting the motor to the drum i.e. transmission, this gearing is plastic and does easily break when a heavy load is done based on age of unit. What you need to do is seperate the motor from the tub. There should be a rubber boot that slides off to expose the gearing .. This gear will probibly look like a round piece of plastic about 3 inch in diasmeter once you get to the gear you will need to remove both sides of the gear. If at all possible do not remove the metal cover on the motor side of the device if needed to remove there is oil in that area so be careful you dont spill it all over.. If you need to remove this cover drain the oil first. Part can be purchased at any appliance warehouse trake the model and serial number of unit with you Good Luck

I have an Admiral 20 lb. capacity heavy duty washer, not sure what model. Machine fills up with water but does nothing aftet that, all controlls seem to work fine. Before this issue it would rinse and in...

There should be a module that does the agitation bit for the washer motor(Spins one way shuts off and reverses the spin etc) There may be a capacitor under the control panel that is not working any more so the motor will not start.

70 Series Kenmore Washer Agitates in Heavy Duty regardless of switch selection

Yours is a 2 speed motor. Does it spin in 2 different speeds. If so, then it most likely is designed with only to agitate in 1 speed. If it only spins in one speed, then your motor is defective

Washer wont spin or drain

Yes, you can check the LID switch as it needs to activate the program to move forward. If the water fills up and there is no wash cycle, check if the motor hums, if so check the capacitor, check the friction on the spindle/drum. If the spindle does not agitate with movement the assembly must be reset.

My roper top load washer model rtw4440vq fills with water but wont wash, spin or drain

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
Motor Coupling If the washer won't spin or agitate the motor coupling might have failed. The motor coupling connects the motor to the washer transmission. It is designed to fail if the washer is overloaded in order to protect both the motor and
Drive Belt If the washer won't spin or agitate, check the drive belt. If the belt is broken or if it isn't tight on the pulleys the washer won't spin or agitate properly.

Drive Motor If the washer won't spin or agitate the drive motor might be defective. This is not common. Check all of the other related parts to this symptom before replacing the motor. If the motor is visibly burned out or physically damaged, replace it.

Stator Assembly If the washer won't spin or agitate the stator assembly might be burned out. The stator is essentially one half of a motor, it interacts with the tub by creating a strong electro-magnet. If the stator burns out the washer won't spin or agitate. Check the stator for continuity. This part is often misdiagnosed.

Door or Lid Latch Assembly If the washer won't spin or agitate the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly If the washer won't spin or agitate the door lock assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Motor Control Board If the washer won't spin or agitate the motor control board might be defective. The motor control board provides power to the motor as well as direction and force. If the motor control board is defective the washer may not work at all or function properly.

I just replaced the transmission on my Kenmore 80. No agitation

your motor turns one way for the spin cycle and the other way for agitate. remove the coupler and test it that way.
