UN MOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME ERROR - BLUE SCREEN

WHEN I TURN ON MY DELL DV051 DESKTOP AND THE WINDOWS XS SCREEN COMES ON IT THEN POPS UP A BLUE SCREEN THAT READS UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME WHAT DOES THIS MEAN. HOW CAN I CORRECT IT? You need your Windows XP cd for this fix.
I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO Boot from the Windows XP CD (THAT CAME WITH THE DESKTOP) BUT WHEN THE CD OPEN IT DOES NOT GIVE ME AN OPTION TO FIRST PRESS R IT START TO RUN AND IT SEEMS IT IS INSTALLING SOMETHING SO I CANNOT TRY TO REPAIR AND FOLLOW ANY OF THE OTHER STEPS.

It does not give me the option to repair or install system. It starts to run and you can see system install something or the only other option is press F6 to add mass storage device. My problem is with the Windows XP disk from Dell - the system boot up with it but then does not give me the option to select anything i.e. R for repair........ My hard disk does have code 7 error that means corrupt date by fixable...... and that is why the system will not boot up.

On a desktop you can actually buy a usb 2.0 pci card that goes inside the computer in one of the pci slots. 2.0 is the way to go because otherwise you'll be getting a message about how your device can run faster if it was plugged into a usb 2.0 port.

Loading PBR for descriptor 2... MODEL DELL DV051

That is the boot loader message to boot to the NTFS Primary boot partition (Primary Boot Record for Descriptor 1 is the Utility partition)
Normally, this message flashes and the system boots, since it is not there is a failure in the boot process.
#1 run diags on the Hard Drive (CTRL+ALT+D at boot) and see if it passes
If it does
#2 Boot to you XP CD, press R for recovery console, and run the COMMAND CHKDSK /R see if the system will boot
If no go, go back to recovery console, try the command BOOTCFG /Rebuild then see if the system will boot
If That fails, try reinstalling Windows
If Diags Fail or all the above fail, replace the hard drive

HOW CAN I FIX MY COMPUTER? ITS READING UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME?

You need your Windows XP cd for this fix.

Boot from the Windows XP CD and at the first prompt, press "r" for repair. Press 1 when asked to choose windows installation and then enter the admnistrator password. If you don;t have one, just press "enter" and it should show you "c:\windows>"

At this prompt, type the following

chkdsk /r

THis should take quite sometime but will fix the problem at the end. when you get the c:\windows prompt again, type the word "exit" and your system will reboot and load windows XP normally

Computer won't boot into windows

The event of you inserting a DVD is unlikely to have anything to do with this problem. Probably just a coincidence that it happened after you did so. Hard drives die eventually and more frequently so in laptops.  I'm afraid you will have to bite the bullet and replace the hard drive.
