Are the controls for a 1998 15 HP 2 stroke Mercury outboard compatible with a 2011 30 HP 4 stroke Mercury outboard

If your old engine/control has the same 'options' as the30hp, yes everything is compatible... (Electric start or trim )
The throttle and shift cables are allways compatible...

Mercury outboard problems

Is this a two stroke?-If it is you most likely have a primary seal going bad (crankcase seal on the ignition side will lean it out, leaking seal on the other-side of assembly will do just what your describing)Hope this helps you out.....

I have a 1993 2 stroke 40 hp mercury outboard motor and it seems that whenever you start it you need to use the choke, even when it's been running for some time and warm. Is that normal for these motors?...

Use it .It is a common thing with 2 strokes.Outboards have water in them and cool down quicker than say a 2 stroke motorbike. They have no water and keep the heat in the engine longer. If it runs well,,don't spend the money. All the choke does is gives the motor a slightly richer air/fuel mix at startup. It cannot hurt the motor.Hope this helps
