GE Oven does not light - no gas smell and no electronic ignition clicking sound

It worked fine one day and then it just didn't work at all. The stovetop burners work fine.

There is no sound of anything happening at all when started.

Electronic ignitor is dead. Only 1.5 yrs old. Will cost about $200 to replace it, depending on age of oven maybe better to get a new one - but NOT GE!

Just as others have said . . . one day it was working but the next it wasn't. No hissing sound of gas, nada! I'm really broke right now (filed Chapt. 7 boo hoo) and can't afford to hire somebody to rip me off, but as a single woman, I'm not too good at repairs but am not afraid to try. Do you think this is something a beginner could handle replacing (the igniter)?

It probably needs an oven igniter. Remove oven racks. Remove oven floor. Usually 2 screws towards back. Remove flame spreader if it has one. You can see long tube with holes in sides and igniter with 2 wires from rear. Now try oven. See if igniter glows. If it does but doesn't light within 1 minute, replace igniter.
If it doesn't glow, you need to check for power to igniter. Should be about 100 volts. If not may need ERC, "Electronic Range Control".

Our 17year old GE gas oven/broiler stopped lighting today. What might be the problem? Stove burners work.

Most likely culprit is the igniter.
When you turn the oven on it opens a gas valve allowing a small amount of gas to flow thru the pilot light. The igniter then lights the pilot and when the sensor determines the pilot is lit it opens th emain gas valve and the oven lights. If the igniter fails and doesn't light the pilot the sensor doesn't heat up and it shuts down the pilot and nothing works.
The igniter is usually accessable under the oven by removing the drawer. It has a single wire attached and looks like a short cigarette made of ceramic witha metal tip.
You didn't provide model number so I can't give you part number but if you look it up here you may be able to get one from Sears

My gas oven is not working-just used this afternoon for bread and chicken-it was fine-broiler and burners work ok

This sounds like a weak igniter, it would have to be a gas oven and the symptoms usually are: takes longer than normal to ignite the burner, may or may not smell gas in the oven, does not maintain set temperature or burner does not come on fully, eventually won't heat at all. On gas ovens, a glo igniter is like a light bulb, the more you cook, the faster it wears out. Bottom line, needs to be replaced. Good luck.

Gas oven not heating, stove top working

Is your stove electronic ignition? Can you here the ignitor clicking as it trys to light? If so the gas valve on the back of the stove for the oven has failed and is not letting gas to the burner. If you smell

I have GE propane range #JGBS23WEH4WW , oven///solar

No, the gas valve for the oven is electric and requires a complete circuit (ie; igniter, sensors, etc) in order to operate

Oven does not heat. Broiler and stove work. NO gas smell.

could be the oven thermostat, get a plumber/heating engineer out, but make sure you can trust him, cause he could try and say u need a new cooker when it MIGHT only be a new oven thermostat.

Gas oven will not ignite

It sounds like somebody bypassed the flame sensor on the oven, no oven should ever release gas for more than a couple seconds if there is no ignition. This oven is very dangerous and should not be used until it is looked at by a professional.

Gas Odor coming from oven

The reason you can't smell it when the oven is on is because the gas is being ignited. DO NOT USE YOUR STOVE until you get this fixed by a gas fitter. You have a gas leak, which is either a loose fitting or faulty valve or line.

Call your appliance dealer IMMEDIATELY or you could have an explosion!!!!

Lights are on but burner will not light!

it sounds like your fail safe has gone the only person who can take that job on is a gas cooker in staler if you have a second hand shop that sells appliances then they could help or even take on the job less then the gas repair man try them
