Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators

Model ED20PKXAN01 side by side. Defrost timer

Whirlpool Model ED20PKXAN01 side by side. Defrost timer went recently and was replaced. Refrig. worked for 2 weeks at 40 degrees. Temp started rising and I manually defrosted as it was iced up. Timer starts and stops like it should. Temp is running at 50 degrees at the normal setting. I turned the setting up a little and it is now at about 45 degrees. Any idea why this is not running at the normal setting of 40 degrees?

The timer could be set for accumulative instead of continuous . The one wire on the timer , set on the wrong terminal .

My Whirlpool refrigerator trips the main breaker of 40 Amps

A refrig cannot pull 40 amps in defrost , unless there is a direct short in the defrost system ( timer , heater , bimetal ) . I would use an extention cord ( for test purposes only ) , and try a different plug . Sounds like the circuit breaker is weak . In defrost , the MOST you should get , is 6 amps . This will not throw a 40 amp breaker . If you have an amp meter , remove the back refrig panel behind the refrig , and connect to one of the power cord lines (just not the green ground ) , turn into defrost and check the amps . This will tell you if short is in refrig , or weak breaker .

Freezer compartment has frost buildup

This can be caused by the drain hole below freezer coil being blocked by ice. You MUST remove all ice in drain under freezer coil. Use turkey baster to squirt hot water into hole and use hairdryer to defrost. Possible defrost thermostat is defective. Unit never goes into defrost, ice forms on coil and in floor of freezer. After defrosting may work OK for a week or two but gradually gets warmer because ice is blocking ports where cool air gets to refrig. May also have water in refrig box. Can also be caused by defective defrost timer.

Refrigerator and freezer not working

you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, ie defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

GE REFRIG. MODEL#TFX30PRYAA. side by side both

It sounds like your defrost control timer is working, but your defrost heater is most likely burnt out. It is a part number WR51X443
and is located behind the back wall inside the freezer. Turning the refrig off for 24 hours helped melt some of the accumulated frost, but not all. You will have to take that back cover off inside the freezer and melt all the frost with a hair blower, replace the defrost heater and reassemble.

Whirlpool ED25DQ - not colling

Need you to look inside the fresh food compartment and turn the defrost timer clockwise slowly.
d01b0a9.png part number 6 is defrost timer. When you turn it and compressor stops leave it there for 20 minutes and see if the refrigerator comes back on. If not the timer will need to be replaced, Let me know, Sea Breeze

Refrig/freezer just quite working?

The defrost timer is located in the control panel in the fresh food section.
Look up under the panel and see a opening slightly smaller than a dime.
Put the blade of a butter knife in there and turn clockwise a quarter turn.
If the fridge starts working, replace the defrost timer.

Whirlpool refrig not cooling

is the fan in the freezer working when compressor is on? if not you need to replace it. do you have a large frost build up on the back wall of the freezer? if so you have a defrost problem, or back to the evaporator fan. If the fan is working you have a defrost problem which could mean a bad heater, timer, or bad defrost thermostat....

Wards/Admiral refrig/freezer

I put the fridge in manual defrost by advancing the timer. The defrost heater worked so the problem was with the timer not advancing to defrost every 6 hours. The plastic gears wear out over time.
