Question about 2wire 2700HG-B Router (2700HGB)
have cinnected the 2wire to exsisting modem. when try to access wireless through laptop keeps asking for key or passcode. what and how is this its not workinh with the digits on the back of modem. also how do i change the passcode/key?
first thing you may need to run the system setup wizard from the modem's gui. on your web browser, type gateway.2wire.net or homeportal/setup or 192.168.1.254 on the address bar. once you get to the main page or network at a glance, click on "run system setup wizard" link on the lower right corner. it may ask you for a system password, that is the password for the modem, if you haven't set up one or forgot it, click on the link "i forgot my password" then it will give you a hint. follow the steps on that wizard and it's gonna establish a connection to your ISP or to the configuration systems. before you do this, connect this modem directly to your computer, since you have to establish a direct connection to this modem in order to access the GUI. as for the key or passcode, default is the series of nos. enclosed in brackets located at the bottom of the modem, the ones on the barcode sticker, just below the serial no. (SN). if you want to change it, go to 192.168.1.254/mdc or homeportal/management, type the system password. click on wireless under local network, as for the type of encryption, you can change it from WEP-open or WPA-PSK etc. select "use custom encryption key", type there the 10-digit keys that you want to use, then click on submit. also change the WEP or passcode on your computer's wireless connection.

I need help. im trying to use my psp's web browser but in order to that from home i need my wep key. but in order to do that i need an icon that opens wireless network set up wizard and i cant find it. could it be because the 2700hg-b modem itself is not working properly?

If you have posted the correct model, you cannot connect a modem to this router as it has it's own built in modem, so in effect the routers modem will not configure properly, remove your modem and try again as there is no reason why the key code numbers should not work, unless you have caps lock on when you should'nt or visa versa
