Handycam CCD TR517 Doesn't record

I haven't used my handycam for a while, today I tried to use it, everything works perfect but it doesn't record, I can see the standby green message, but when I push the red button nothing happens. The player mode works ok, I can also use the editsearch function but that red button just does nothing.

I didn't know about those modes of record, but no matter if I press the button once or if I hold the button down nothing happens. I think I'll need to replace the record button. Thanks anyway

    Thanks for posting your comments.
    OK here's what I do:
I slide the main switch to the camera position (the one that also opens the lens cover)then I move the protection switch from the lock postion to the standby position, the camera turns on, I get image, I can use the zoom, I can see the green STBY letters, the time and battery counters, I can even use the +edit search- function. Then I try and press the red button and there's when notingh happens, I let it pressed for 1, 5 10 or 20 secconds but it just doesn't work. I opened and cleaned it, it doesn't seem to be damaged.
I'm looking for and athorized sony center near me but I don't know if they would sell me the record switch or they only do the whole repairment.

These models have a switch for 3 different modes of record. one where you press the red button once, one for having to hold the red button in and a 5 second record feature, check this mode. also check and make sure the tape you are using did not have the record save switch slid into record save position..

Do you get an image on the screen before you attempt to press the record button? You cound still be in record standbye mode. If you would like to get a part number and try replacing the record switch yourself let me know. I have not seen this switch fail very often however. Larry

O.K. then the record switch is available only as part of the ss9700 switch block assembly . part number is 1-418-758-11 . list price is $19.87 . Should be able to get it at Andrews 1-800-289-0300. If not email me at ledstiles@hotmail.com

I need the software for CCD TR 517

I understand that you wish to transfer recordings from the Camcorder to the a computer. Since the CCD TR517 is an analog Camcorder, driver and software from the manufacturer is not required to transfer videos. You can connect the A/V output of the Camcorder to the A/V input on the Computer and use the Windows Movie Maker software available with the Windows Operating System to capture the videos. Please let me know if you require more details about doing that.

Thanks for understanding.

You may be better buying another broken one - to use for parts. It should be a lot cheaper.

Transfering 8mm video tapes to dvds

Hi there. You need to transfer your videos to your computer and then burn them to DVD using a program like Record Now, or Nero. You should be able to get this from Best Buy, or you can get it online from their websites. If you have any other questions, let me know with a comment. Thanks for coming to FixYa.

Do you still have the remote control? Try with the remote. If this works, the button of the camera is broken and have to be replace by a qualified technician. Good luck!

Ccd tr517

I had the same thing on mine and it turned out to be the on/off switch in the lens head. I took it apart and moved the switch a bit and the problem did not come back for quite awhile. I replaced the switch and it has been fine.

My camera would actually turn on by itself also before changing the switch.
