Bridging outputs on JBL BP300

On the speaker outputs for the JBL BP300, I assume that to bridge them you use the two outer terminals and not the two inside ones beside each other. I would just like some confirmation on this. Thank you.

Hello paulnkate,

The BP300.1 is a mono (1 channel) amp. You cannot bridge a mono amp. Bridging is a method of combining the outputs of 2 or more channels of a multichannel amp into a single mono load. On your amp you would connect a single sub to one of the +'s and one of the -'s (either one is OK, they are connected internally). The other pair of terminals is just for convenience, making it easier to connect, if you want to power 2 subs.

Hope this helps.

How do you bridge a JBL GTO7001 amp

JBL do not suggest bridging this amplifier. As it is a mono block, the "stereo outputs that are on the amplifier go to the same contacts inside", so effectively both Left and Right outputs are the same, (like using a headphone splitter.) this is designed for ease of use when installing more than one subwoofer. if you run your sub/s at two ohms you will be able to get the full 700WRMS out of this unit.
so in effect if you "bridge" this amplifier it will not be any different if you hadn't. Bridging is designed for TWO or more channel amplifiers to increase the power going to the speakers, but not needed in a mono block amplifier.
I hope i have helped you with your problem and please dont forget to rate my solution.
cheers

Dont know how to wire subwoofers to my mutant amplifier

I take it that you have two woofers to connect. That said, you need to bridge your speakers to your amplifier to get them to really thump. Firstly, check on you amplifier where the bridging connections are, ie. you will have connecting screws for two speakers +-, and +-. There should be a mark indicating the bridged output, normally the first + and the last -. Now, connect the + of your one speaker to the - on the other speaker. The two un used terminals will go to the amp ie. the one - onthe one speaker and the + on the other one.

Is that ok to do mono on Thump TA1001

yes, it is a bridgable amplifier, if that is what you are talking about. Look at the speaker output terminal and it should have markings on it for stereo output and it will have a line between the 2 terminals to use for bridging it. When you bridge an amplifier it is mono. There may also be a switch on the amp for stereo or bridged. Put that switch in the bridged mode. Connect one speaker to the speaker output and you have your bridged mono amplifier. If you plan on using 2 woofers, it is better and safer to use it in stereo mode with one speaker on each channel.

Let me know if you need any more help,

Dave

Have you checked the on-board fuses?

Did you confirm (with a multimeter) that you have voltage on the B+ and remote terminals of the amplifier?

Did you have the black meter lead on the ground terminal of the amp when you checked the voltage?

On lucent amps you sometimes have to bridge two terminals together to make it work. i need to know what two need to be bridged.

I'm not sure if Lucent has a special bridging procedure, but on most if not all other amps, when you bridge you DON'T connect two terminals together. What you do is instead of using the plus and minus terminals on one channel to one speaker and the other +/- terminals to the other speaker, you will instead use the plus (+) terminal from one channel and the minus (-) terminal from the other channel to drive one speaker and the remaining + and - terminals remain unconnected. Be sure you use the + and - terminals that are marked for bridging. Please note, that when you bridge that your speaker load DOUBLES to EACH channel. In other words, what your amp saw as a 4 ohm speaker going to one channel alone, it now sees as a 2 ohm speaker on each channel when bridged. Be sure you know what you are doing before you bridge and fry your amp. In my experience, if after bridging your amp works fine for about a month and then fries then you bridged wrong and ended up with the wrong speaker load on each of the bridged channels. Be careful. Amps cost a lot to repair. Good luck.

JBL Sub Amp Wiring Please

it seems rather redundant to bridge a mono amp. Unless the instruction manual states otherwise, i would assume that one speaker output is identical to the other (ran in parallel, like an A or B speaker, not like Left or Right), and you would present the amp with a two ohm load by wiring one speaker to each output. Bridging it may or may not work, but, again, it just seems redundant.

It's a mono amp. There's no bridging with this amp.

The two pairs of speaker terminals are connected together internally. The second set of terminals is for convenience.

ASSUMING that the amp is OK with a 2ohm load then you "set it up" by the configuration of the speakers you use. Two 4 ohm speakers if parallel will give you a 2 ohm load. However, if you are bridging the ouputs then a single 4 ohm speaker bridged between the two outputs will put a 2 ohm load on each channel. Be very careful if you are bridging the outputs that you know what you are doing. On average, when bridged wrong (too much load) the amp will last about one month before it fries. Get some help if you are bridging. Be sure not sorry.
