You can check your hard drive for errors either by using the chkdsk command with /f switch, or you can use a powerful third party tool like HDD Regenerator.
In any case, your hard drive will not be formatted.

You can download a trial version of HDD Regenerator at the following link:

Assuming tht u r using windows...checking for hard drives does not format the drive at all... Also if by mistake u click something that links to format it will always ask you for confirmation.. so it is safe to check disk for errors as long as you know where and what clicks are u doing :)

NO
hard drive error checking is used with this command:

chkdsk drive_name /f /r

formatting is different: format drive_name

Hi jrawat7,

A Cyclic Redundancy Check, known as a CRC error, often occurs when you're attempting to transfer data to a hard drive. It's most commonly caused by an interruption in the recording process, but also can be a sign that you've got problems with your hard drive or optical drive.

Here are some steps fixed the issue:

Rule out problems with your computer Start by Defragmenting your disk. Click the Windows or Start button in the lower-left corner of your computer screen and select Control Panel. Click the System and Security icon. Choose Administrative Tools, then Defragment your hard drive. This will clear up clutter on your hard drive that could be causing the error

Use the CHKDSK program in Windows to see if there are other problems with your hard drive. Click the Windows or Start button and select My Computer or Computer. Right-click the drive with the CRC error. Choose Properties, then select the Tools tab. Click Check Now. Make sure the program will fix disk errors by checking the top square in the dialog box. Click Start.

Don't Forget to say Thanks. Thanks for using Fixya.

Dear sir, i have JVC GZ-MG67E HARD DISK CAMCORDER and there is one problem in the hard disk . that is hard disk error , what it mean? kindly assite me pls . waiting for urs reply. thaking you

it means the hard drive on you camera has a fault.

First if its less than a year old, take it back to where you bought it from.

Second have a look at the trouble shooting guide in the instructions, they my help.

Finally, you could re-format the hard drive but be warned, this will delete every thing on the drive, it may also completely wreck it. Equally, it could also resolve the problem.

Toshiba (MK1031GAS) 100 GB Hard Drive - Cant be viewed in My comp

The first thing you need to do is go into the Control Panel, then double click on Administrative Tools. After that, open up Computer Management, then go to Storage, then Disk Management. This is where you will see all of your drives listed. Be extremely careful in this section because you don’t want to screw up your main hard drive.
What you are looking for in the Disk Management area is your new hard drive. If you only have one hard drive, it should show up as Disk 0. Therefore, your new drive should most likely be Disk 1. Underneath the name Disk 1 it should say Unknown, the size of the disk, and Not Initialized. Right click in this area and you should get a pop-up window. Click Initialize Disk and it should only take a couple of seconds.

Once your new hard drive is initialized, you will still have to format the drive before you can use it. To format, right-click in the column to the right of the Disk 1 label and then click New Simple Volume in the menu that pops up. From here, you can allocate how much of the drive you want for a new volume, what drive letter you want to call it, give it a name, and finally format the hard disk.
Formatting the hard drive may take a while, depending on the size. My 500 gigabyte drive took nearly an hour to format, so don’t be alarmed if your's takes a while. Once the format completes, your new hard drive will now show up in My Computer and you can start putting files on it.

Only Hp knows what that means in their diags. Get it shipped back and take it to a Locally owned PC shop and have them take a look at it. It is possible that you have just enough file fragmentation and file structure corruption that it is fail diags. Why did you take it in to be looked at anyways?

Hi,

This is highly probable that the external Hard disk has failed. Not your fault , but due to manufacturing fault.

Pls return to where you have bought it, and request for warranty exchange.

Thank you for coming to FixYa and rating us.
