A few of these (not sure if this model) have two mirrors inside--stupid idea and only a few had that--.
If this is the case here--little mirror (I mean LITTLE) is at bottom pointing up from the optical lens--gets dust and such from the fans= picture gets darker to the point where brightness is very diminished.
Mitsubishi can tell you if it has two mirrors (the large one in rear of set must not be touched and never needs cleaning as any finger prints etc will show in the picture.
If two mirrors I can tell you what to do--15 minute two person job.
Clean the small front projection mirror. That mirror can get dust on it and will cause the projected image to appear dull and dim and cleaning that mirror will usually restore the brightness and crisp details in the image.
snap off the fron cover its pretty tight so kind of pull hard dont worry it wont break its just snaped on tightly, after uncrew 3 screws under the screen lift up and pull out screen there will be 2 wires attached to screen, unplug them to set screen to side. dust off the projectors with dry rag, then clean mirror with windex or any window cleaning product. u are done cleaning front of Toshiba, put everything back together, then unscrew the bottom back and vaccum any dust balls u will see inside T.V. u r now done! let me know how it went.
Yes, front screen can be removed to clean projection mirror and picture tubes lenses. Remove speaker grille, pull them to remove. There are 3 screws at bottom of front screen, remove them. There are few wire harness plugs need to be disconnect to remove completely front screen. Below exploded view of Mitsubishi VS-50607 will help you to remove front screen to clean inside. Be careful while removing screen.
Pull the Front Bottom panel off under screen will be screws that hol pn screen remove all of them then lift up on screen anf remove it Now you should be where Mirror and Tubes Clean all lenses and mirror with windex.
as i previously posted, my picture was dim, muddy looking after
replacing lamp with osram lamp. i fixed mine by taking the screen off
and cleaning the small mirror. it had a thick layer of dust on it,
cleaned with a microfiber cloth. no water, no glass cleaners. i also
used a very fine new small paint brush and dusted the projector lens
which also had a dust film. brightness, contrast and clarity returned!
There is black insulating foam that surrounds the projector and it may be displaced to one side. This leaves about an 1 inch opening around the projector lens and that could be the source of the problem, dust being blown into the compartment with the mirrors. Cleaned the mirrors really well and used double stick tape to reattach the foam to the plastic frame and this will closed off the opening that maybe letting the dust into the mirrored area of the TV.
