Came home on sunday my had a black screen. Comes on but does not display anything. remote wont work. What can I do? If i leave it unplugged will it reset is there an at home fix, or sevice or new tv my only options?
If you notice a Very Slight change in the black when you turn ON the TV, then this may be possible to fix at home by you.
1. Unplug the TV and press the Power Button on the TV.
2. plug it in and try it again
3. if no picture, check the User manual for the customer reset method
4. try doing a customer reset
5. if this doesn't work, you need to get it serviced.
This sounds like an inverter problem if the Backlight is not lighting(no slight change to black when TV powered on)
Look at the Vizio logo on the front of the tv. It should be yellow when the unit is plugged in but turned off. When you hit the power button this logo should turn white or blueish white. If your screen is black at this point and your tv will not turn off again, then it is the motherboard. There are four transistors, (or voltage regulators) that can be the cause of this. Unless you are good at electronics STOP at this point and take it to be serviced. If your are ok with using VOM's and soldering, then go ahead and proceed. Lay the TV flat, face down on a table and disassemble the case. You should see a large metal box near the bottom center of the tv with all the connections on it. Take out all the screews and make sure to remove the nut on the coax (or cable tv) connection. Remove the screws that attach the metal box to the frame of the tv, then remove the cover of the box. The parts that you are concerned about are marked on the circuit board as U7,U8,U9, and U33. There are kits available on ebay that will get you these four parts (No I do not sell them or make any cash from this). Hope I was able to shed some light on the subject for you.
