Spool thread breaking:
Make sure you are using a brand new needle.
ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading.
Verify the thread pathway is correct.
Make sure there is no "thread slit" or snag on the spool that is catching the thread (if so, turn the spool over on the spindle so the slit is at the top).
Check that the bobbin is loaded and threaded correctly in the bobbin case.
Use only good quality thread--NO old thread from grandma's sewing basket or bargain bin variety. Use the same thread top & bottom.
Set the upper tension to midway between the high & low numbers.
Retest your stitch on medium weight woven cotton fabric. Begin to stitch slowly.
If the upper thread is still breaking, there could be a burr or nick somewhere that is catching the spool thread. You can test by wrapping your finger with very fine fabric, like an old pair of nylon hosiery and run it around inside the machine and along the thread path to see if it hangs up anywhere. If it is a minor snag, sometimes you can smooth it with a fine emery board or sand paper. If it is large, you may need to replace the part.
If it is still breaking, you probably need to have it serviced.
Sewing Machine Problem 1 Thread Breakage
For the bulb, you may need to use rubber fingers or something similar to help get a grip. If it is a bayonet bulb, you may need to push up and twist simultaneously. Others usually just unscrew. There are some that must be replaced by a technician (check your owner's manual).
