At what volume setting does this amp break up, giving that Brian May/Queen's
"Dead On Time" crunch?
I haven't ever done this with an AC30, although I have with an AC15, which
sounded terrible to my ears.
Thanks for any help with the AC30 question.
Peace,
Jason

In my experience I'd say the crunch starts at relatively high setting on the
new AC30 reissues. But it sounds great for leads.
The AC15 does not sound like 1/2 of a AC30, those two amps have a different
vibe IMO. And the AC30 really needs the blue speakers to sound right to me.
IMO the new AC30 RI with the blus speakers sounds as good as most of the
"boutique" EL84 amps out there that try to copy the old AC30 tone. The
problem is that the AC30 RI with the blus is as expensive as most of those
boutique amps and it's a mass produced PCB amp with the price tag of a PTP
wired boutique amp.
I know you love the sound of your Mesa SubRockRev, and even tho the AC30 is
an EL84 amp it's quite different from the Mesa. I like the AC30 for leads,
but it's not much for modern heavy or dropped tuning stuff. And I prefer
the AC30 with single coils. Try one with your Les Paul at high volumes if
you get the chance, it will probably get a little muddy for you though.
