Lexmark X5400 Series AIO Feed Problems

I'm not sure how it happened, but when i try printing/copying a document, the paper feed pulls more to one side than the other, causing it to jam each time. could be one of the wheels that pull the paper through the printer or something, idk.

Hi,
Remove the jammed paper. Unplug the printer from the mains and PC. Inspect the rollers, etc for tiny paper piece(s) that may be stuck, or other debris. Try to clean rollers and make sure they are dry.
Keep printer unplugged for about 2 minutes and replug and try a test print.
Also make sure that you have waited long enough for the printer to heat up before giving a print job.
Finally, it could be an issue with the paper sensor. If this is the case, you will probably have to take the printer in for servicing..

It is the paper possible that cause... your paper must not be double in feeding the paper... try to fix the paper in putting it to the printer... fix it like you rearrange the paper in its sequence... scattered the paper make sure that there's no double paper that attached in the printer feeder...so that it won't cause paper jammed.

There could be something that's blocking the paper feed system. Leading cause of paper jams is debris/foreign objects that accidentally fell into the paper feed area.


1. Remove the sheets of paper from the feeder.

2. Grab a flashlight and look inside for any debris.

3. If you're willing and physically able, you may also turn the printer over. Any debris should just freely roll out from the feeder.

4. If feeder is clear, place the printer back on the table, open the printer cover and remove the cartridges.

5. Check the cartridge area for any obstructions/debris that could cause this error or problem.

6. If cartridge area is clear, close the cover.

7. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power outlet to reset it.

8. When the printer turns on, reinsert the cartridges and load some paper. Try to print again.

Hello the paper feed roller is not pulling the paper down evenly. It appears that the bar on the left paper feed wheel is out of line. how can i access the rollers to rectify this


This article in the Lexmark website on How to Remove and/or Avoid a Paper Jam in your Lexmark X5300 & X5400 & X5600 Series All-In-One might help resolve the problem. However, if the paper feed roller is visibly "out of line" causing it to mechanically fail, I would strongly suggest you contact Lexmark technical support for assistance.

turn on/off, unplug, plug in2_bing.gif, should reset configs.

take all the paper out, put half as much back in.
check the rollers to make sure no paper or particles are stuck preventing from accepting paper. although you did this, there might be a small particle hanging you up. I have experienced this before. see if both sides have cogs that catch the roller, one might be offset?

go to applications folder for your computer, dbl click printer icon for make of printer. check settings. print 'test document and clean cartridge heads', this should ensure proper printing formats.

lastly, go to web site of printer model and check site for trouble shooting if this does not work above.

How do I copy a document on a lexmark x 1185 printer scanner copier


Turn the documents printed page away from you. (Document facing you, turn it around so that the print is on the backside)

Insert it in the top paper feed tray. Align the left side of the document page, with the alignment bar on the left side of the top paper feed tray. (Put the left side of the paper against the plastic bar on the left side of the paper tray)

Computer running, Windows loaded. Go to Start>Hover your mouse cursor on All Programs>Lexmark>Lexmark Printer

Click on the Copy function, and go to the Properties window to set how many copies you want, (Default setting is 1), what size paper you're using, and so on.

The paper is not feeding properly on my printer.As it advances the paper crumples or tilts at an angle and then just stops. A paper jam message appears. Solution Attempts. 1. I turn the machine...


Most of Lexmark printers (including the Z- and X- series) pull the paper down on one side slightly faster than the other. The printer hardware should even this out when printing. You should also ensure the paper meets the automatic feeder requirements of the printer.

If printing is skewed, feeding multiple pages or jamming, please follow these instructions (use a regular letter size paper to test after doing the steps given below):

Please check to ensure there is nothing obstructing the paper feed mechanism down inside the printer where it is not easily seen. If there is nothing obvious, unplug the printer and remove the paper. Open the front cover and look above the steel rod. You should see a conveyor belt with rubber teeth on it, like a fan belt. Take the bottom part of that belt and move it gently to the left. The cartridges should come out with it. Make sure the cartridges can move fully from one side of the printer to the other. Check also the output rollers on the bottom of the printer for any blockage. If it is jamming under the carrier assembly, you may be able to fix it using the manual feed slot. Turn the printer off. Next take a #10 envelope and feed it through the left side of the paper feed slot (The manual paper feed slot is preferred, but the automatic feed will do if there is no manual paper feed for this printer) until it comes completely through the printer to the back of the exit rollers. Move it up and down and slowly move it over to the right side. If something is stuck under the black guide plate this may work it loose or you may have to feed the envelope through the front rollers and push your way backward (please be careful here).

Next, take a damp warm cloth and clean the rubber rollers in the automatic sheet feeder. Dust may be coating the rollers there and as they become less tacky, they cannot feed paper correctly.
Then plug the printer back up, take your paper out and replace it with a fresh, small stack (about 5 pages) of paper. Quickly bend the stack in an 'S' shape a few times to separate pages. Make sure it is lined up on the right side of the paper feed and the paper guide on the left is snug on the left side of the paper. Then try to form feed again. If that works, then try to print the self test page.

Please follow the steps given below to perform the self-test:

1. Make sure the printer is in “Copy Mode.”
2. Press the “Menu” button once.
3. The screen will display “Copy Menu: Copies”.
4. Press the left arrow button once. The screen will display “Copy Menu: Tools”.

6. Press the check button once. The screen with read “Maintenance: Ink Levels”.
7. Press the right arrow button until the screen reads “Maintenance: Print Test Page”.
8. Press the check button once. This will start the Self-Test. Once the page has printed, the printer will stop. The test is not continuous.

The self-test should at least print out a set of either a solid black or solid color bars, if not both (if you have a printer with both color and black installed simultaneously). Should this test fail, please try it again without cartridges installed. If the self-test still fails to take paper in and make sounds like the carrier is moving across the paper, this is a hardware issue, and the printer will require service. If the self-test completes without any cartridges installed, run the self-test again with only a color cartridge installed (If you have both black and color cartridges, after this test, run the test again with just the black cartridge installed). If you find that either cartridge causes the self-test to fail, please let us know.
If the self-test prints, but has lines or smudges or other print quality issues, please let us know. This includes any print quality issues - we need to know if the problems you have with your black or color are based in the printer, or communications with your computer, or the computer's software.

Lexmark X2350 won't pull paper to print.


One common cause of paper feed issues is a build up of dust on the printer's rear paper feed roller. This roller consists of a plastic axle with one rubber roller on each side. This is located in the automatic sheet feeder and is referred to as the "Pick Roller." As dust builds up on the rubber rollers, they become less tacky and therefore unable to grab a single sheet of paper.
To prevent and/or cure this type of paper feed problem, these rubber rollers should be cleaned. Unplug the printer's power cord and remove the paper from the automatic sheet feeder. Locate the pick roller and clean the rubber wheels on the left and right with a cloth dampened with warm water (be sure there is no excess water on the cloth as it may drip into the machine). After these are free of any dust or ink build up, reload the paper and plug the power cord back in. The paper should then feed normally.

Next, try this printer self-test by following the steps given below:
1. Press the "Power" button to turn the printer power off.
2. Press and hold the "Copy" button.
3. Press the "Power" button one time and release it(keep holding the copy button).
4. Let go of the "Copy" button after the power LED flashes once.
5. The self-test will produce 1 page. The test is not continuous.
The self-test should print out a set of black and color bars.
If the self-test prints, but has lines or smudges or other print quality issues, please let us know. This includes any print quality issues, we need to know if the problems you have with your black or color are based in the printer, or communications with your computer, or the computer's software.

Lexmark 4270 won't feed paper to print or copy!


In this Case take out the Paper from the Paper Feed Tray........ Unplug the Power Supply from the Printer.......... Remove both the Cartridges from the Printer.......... Now take a size 10 Envelope fold it so that it should become like a thin long strip........ Now Insert that Envelope on the left side corner of the Printer and move it from right to left and left to right as fast as u can for about 10 times.......... Now Insert the Ordinary Papers onto the Printer and insert both the catridges and Turn on the Printer...... Good Luck

Won't feed paper while printing


I just obtained a printer with the same problem. When I opened it up I discovered a plastic gear that had cracked and was not turning the main paper roller as it was slipping. It looks like the solution is to replace the roller if you can find one or to repair the gear and epoxy back onto the roller. I am trying the later.
