Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

On the 8th May I purchased an Altec Lansing iM310 Portable iPod Speaker System for my daughters birthday on the 31stMay this year. It has developed a defect in 'the part where the iPod goes into'. The volume goes up and down when moved even slightly. This is very disappointing for both myself and especially for my daughter, Grace.

call Amazon uk and tell them to give you a legit nummer for support for a thing you bought from them!
They have a obligation to give you a number, if they wont then tell them they have to take it back since you still have warranty on it..

When I plug in my Ipod to the inMotion im310 portable speaker the Ipod screen says it is not supported, and it worked this morning.

Check the pins on the speaker and on the plugin on the iPod, that's the problem usually. Also, check if the iPod is truly compatible, even if it worked before it may not be. I have seen car chargers for say a 2G iPhone work for a bit then say incompatible, it happens. Here are the compatible iPods for the iM310:

Plays and charges
iPod mini;
iPod nano 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G;
iPod classic 3G, 4G, 5G, 5.5G, 6G;
iPod touch 1G, 2G

Good luck!
EJ

My im310 smokes and smells, I get no sound. Repair or replace?

Replace, the cost of repairing something made in china is usually greater than buying a new one. I would just get a new one with fresh warranty.

I want to listen to music from my inspiron 9 threw im310

You will want to use a 1/8" to 1/8" Stereo patch cable similar to this one http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3612891 Just plug it into the headphones jack on your laptop then plug the other end into the jack on the back of your im310.

Wrong Power Supply

If it doesn't work with batteries or the supplied power supply than your speakers are fried. Sorry for the bad news.

Can't open/disassemble Altec Lansing im310

There is only four visible screws on the outside of the unit, which are the ones that everyone's found already.  Two are in the battery compartment, two in the storage compartment.  However I managed to find the location of the other TEN!  You need to take off the screens on top of the speaker.  The safe way I managed to do it was by using a very small flathead screwdriver and I would start at the bottom and work my way to the top on the outside edge of the speaker grill, just putting it between the grill and the plastic and turning the screwdriver up a little and inwards.
Once that's off you'll see four screws around the outside of each speaker and an additional screw sunk in above each speaker.  Once the screws are off, slowly just start to wiggle the two sides apart.  They're together tight, so just be patient and work it open slowly.
I should also mention that the ends of these speakers (that the seam doesn't seem to continue on) is actually a thin piece of plastic on each side and is stuck on with really sticky double-sided tape of some sort or rubber cement, something like that.  If you're careful, you can pull these off (slowly, once again).  It'll make pulling the two sides apart a LOT easier.
Hope this helps!
