I am sorry to hear you cannot get your Generator started, First I think you should start by looking at the ignition system.
To find the fault please follow these steps:

  1. Removed the spark plug from the engine and re-attach to the Ignition HT Lead. Hold the end of the spark plug tip to a metal section of the engine, and turn over the engine. If all is working correctly, you should see a strong spark, and the engine should run smoothly.
  2. If you do not get a spark, you next need to check oil level is at correctly level (to the very top as if about to flow out) and repeat step 1.
  3. If you still have no spark or it stops running within a few minutes of starting, disconnect the oil sensor wire (you will find it on the front coming from your engine just to the top left of the oil filler cap) and try step 1 again.
  4. Still not getting a spark? Then you need to replace your ignition coil. You can order one from us from our website on this page: http://www.generatorguru.com/xp10000-xp10000e-xp10000e-ca/
If you are getting a spark, but still having trouble starting the Generator, there is most likely a fuel problem too. We can assist you with the next set of fault-finding tests if you need some help. Let us know how it goes. http://www.generatorguru.com/ask-the-guru/

Fuel mixing with oil and filling oil tank and cylinder.

the ethanol gas has a way of ruining the rubber tip on the needle valve (in carburetor). When the rubber tip on that valve or the rubber on the Seat go bad, gas can constantly want to fill the carburetor bowl. so much so that it runs into the engine cylinder and past the Rings to the crankcase.
You can replace the needle valve and seat in the carb which is best OR you can put an in-line shutoff on the fuel line and turn it off when you are not using the generator.
Ethanol gas.. very very bad for carburetors.

Onan propane generator starting problem

There can be numerous reasons why and is difficult to diagnose without more information. Assuming plugs filter etc are fine and new or clean and gapped. One thing I would check would be the LP pressure going into the unit, Then check the demand regualtor. You did not mention if it keeps running when it finally starts. Over time the demand regulator can accumulate a heavy wax preventing the diaphragm from opening. This wax is the result of a lubricate LP gas companies have in the gas. It can make starting harder, then result in it not starting at all. Regulators typically should be replaced and not serviced due to the high possibility of gas leaks. Hope this helps www.advanced-power-technologies.com

Have a 16k propane guardian generator have to manually start and

Is this an RV generator?

If you have to really choke an LP engine but it runs more or less normally once started you need to troubleshoot the demand regulator and the fuel supply lines (look for air leaks). I'd also check the fuel inlet pressure before the demand regulator.

Hard to start , have to manually choke, and when running on auto

You didn't say, so I'm assuming that this is an LP Vapor fueled Home Standby generator. The bottom line to these things is that if it sounds like a fuel problem it almost always is one.

1 - Check for leaky fuel supply plumbing.

2 - Check the fuel pressure at the input side of the demand regulator inside the generator, it needs to be something like 11 inches of water all the time. My Generac/Guardian training came with a nifty manometer just for this purpose. If you can't get a manometer your LP supplier should be able to come and make this measurement for you. If you aren't comfortable with adjusting the gas pressure you should call them anyway.

3 - Change the spark plugs. This isn't all that common a problem, but it's cheap compared to changing the demand regulator.

4 - Check/replace the demand regulator inside the generator. This part controls gas flow rate rather than gas pressure so if the diaphram in there gets sticky or leaky you can have fuel problems.
