Water dripping into fridge from freezer. noticed red hot element in back of freezer behind vent inside freezer

Heater glow behind frz back wall is normal during auto defrost cycle. This happens about 2 or 3 times a day for approximately 30 to 45 minutes. The water migrating into the fresh food section could be from a blocked drain tube which should be be in the area directly under the red glow you noticed. Should be a hole going through the floor into the drain pan under the refrigerator. Force hot water down hole until it flows freely.

There is a red glow from coil at bottom back of freezer that I can see through slats from inside. There is a sizzling water drip happening.

there is an element in there for self-defrosting, if you have a self-defrosting model. It heats up like an oven element ( not nearly as hot) to get rid of frost build up.

My whirlpool freezer is working but the fridge part is not?

Hello,

Sounds like you have a defrost problem since the freezer side is working okay . It probably is not blowing cold air into the refrigerator side , so to check the defrost circuit , unplug the refrigerator and inside the refrigerator section at the top about 2" in from each side in the back , there are "D" slots to put a finger in , and pull downward and forward , to remove the control panel cover . Once removed , there is a 1/4" screw on each side holding the adjustment indicator panel on , 1 phillips screw behind both light bulbs , and 1 screw holding the complete panel to the rear wall . After removing these 5 screws , at the top right corner , with about 6-8 wires going to it , is the adaptive defrost board . Sometimes you can see the electronic board and on newer refrig's , a white box will be seen. Inside this box , is the adaptive defrost control . Disconnect the plug going to the board and on the right side of the PLUG , the far right wire is yellow , then another color , then white . Using a small insulated wire with both ends stripped , insert one end into the yellow wire hole and the other into the white wire hole . This will bypass the adaptive board and send power directly through the defrost bimetal ( thermostat ) AND heater to check if they are good .Plug the refrigerator back in . Now , wait about 3-5 min and look for a red glow at the bottom of the inside freezer panel , which will be the defrost heater or listen for sizzling which will be the frost melting and dripping onto the heater .If NO red glow , watch for a spark while removing the jumper wire you installed , from the plug . If a spark IS seen , then the heater was on and the heater AND bimetal are good . If you see the red glow , hear the sizzling , or see the spark , then the adaptive defrost board should be replaced . If no glow , sizzling or spark , then unplug the refrigerator and reinstall the refrigerator control section .
Remove the food in the freezer section enough so that the 2 screws holding the lower freezer panel on and the freezer panel , can be removed . Remove the panel . If the heater (black element at the bottom of the coils ) wires are visible , trace then to the top of the coils and disconnect . Use an ohm meter to determine if the element is good . If the element IS good , at the top of the coils , is a 1" cylinder with 2 wires , clipped onto the coils . This is the defrost thermostat ( bimetal ) . Replace this part if the element shows good . If the element shows bad , replace the element . NOTE 1 : sometimes the element and the bimetal come wired together and the replacement part comes with a new heater and bimetal already wired together . This would be the advisable replacement part . However , each part can still be replaced individually . NOTE 2 : If looking at the bimetal and the top plastic " cap " looks cockeyed , replace the bimetal as moisture has gotten inside and disturbed its designed function .

hope this helpout.......

Why is my freezer hot and i can see like red like its hot and the plastic is warped like melted. I can hear it running but its not getting cold

If you are seeing red hot while freezer is running your defrost element is staying on. there could be a short in the defrost timer or in the wiring to the heater. otherwise the red glow can be normal. the melted plastic is a concern. there is a limiting thermostat connected to the elemnt to keep it from getting too hot.. check the timer first.

This is a new fridge and the element located in the lower freezer behind the pull out drawer is red hot with water dripping on it? we had the same problem with our old fridge and this is why we replaced...

the element you see in the back of the freezer compartment is the defrost heater. your frig will defrost 2-3 times every 24 hours for 15-30 minutes. when its in a defrost cycle the element will get hot and melt the frost that has built up on the cooling coils from normal operation. the melted frost will then drip down ..some will hit the heater and sizzle, most will drip onto a tray and go down a small drain into a pan under the frig and then evaporate out.. Also ,it doesnt defrost at the same time each day., it is based on how much the frig runs and the electronic control will figure out when it it time to initiate a defrost..the red glow and the sizzling is normal and only lasts a short time....

you will need to access the heater in the rear area of the freezer compartment and disconnect the heater element and take a continuity test of the element,if this checks good, then in the same area is your defrost timer, unplug the heater from it and hook up a voltmeter and energize the defrost timer manually and see if you have a voltage there

sounds like you may have a bad bake element. try to see if the unit will get hot when set to broil. if it does then try the bake again. if you get no red hot heat from the bake element then you may need to replace it.
when an element is working properly it will heat to a red hot glow.

all is normal with the defrost heater getting red hot.

as far as the inlet tube freezing, you most likely need a new water inlet valve. it may not be closing all the way and water is slowly dripping into the icemaker and freezing up right away. a new valve should fix your issue. here is the part that you need. http://www.repairclinic.com/SSPartDetail.aspx?s=t-TFH27PRSA-%3d%3di1032629&PartID=1032629
