Question about Toshiba Satellite A55-S106 Notebook

1 Answer

Power supply The laptop refuses to turn on even when it's connected to an outlet. I've taken the laptop to Radio Shack and the man behind the counter told me that it's because the power supply in the laptop is malfunctioning and is not providing the power the laptop needs to function.

Re: power supply

With little info to go with here, you must start with what is known to be in good working condition. Based on what you said, you must start with a known good power supply connected to a known good outlet without a battery installed in the laptop. Radio Shack may be correct on this one. Alternatively, you can start with a known good and charged battery only. If still no power up, then power conversion inside laptop may be an issue or cpu, or....the list grows from here so best to take the computer to a professional.

Acer Aspire 5536 only gives black screen when i connect power supply

  • Nothing is more annoying than a monitor that refuses to turn on. Make sure your Acer monitor is plugged in to a functioning outlet. If it's plugged into a power strip, try replacing it with a new one or moving the plug to a different outlet. Ensure that both ends of the power cable are plugged in firmly and securely, and that the connection to the monitor is not loose.
Cable Issues
  • Your Acer LCD monitor will usually accept DVI and VGA inputs. If you have an older computer, a VGA cable should work fine. If it doesn't have a VGA port, you'll need to obtain an inexpensive DVI to VGA adapter at your local computer store. A DVI cable, however, is compatible with most modern computers and offers superior picture quality over VGA. Make sure you're using the cable that's compatible with your system, and that you have the proper conversion adapter, if necessary.

Does cq61 laptop works without battery

I would assume that the wire/power supply is more likely to be the problem. Even if the battery is completely shot, most laptops will start if the power cord is plugged into the outlet and the laptop is turned on. You should check on replacing the power supply / power cord. Buy it from a store that takes returns with no questions asked. I've even bought one, tested it in the store, (after asking in advance if I could do so). This is a good idea if you live 40 miles from the place it's purchased.

Why won't my laptop recharge? Does not even register power hookup.

Mark, there is a good chance that the power supply is not working correctly.
If you can (or have someone) test the output, it either is not providing the power or the connector(s) is/are bad.
The people at your local Radio Shack may be willing to do the test for you. (since most are Compaq dealers)

This is a common problem, these adapter go faulty all the time, you need to test with a meter, or get a replacement Power Adapter... You need to take out battery and plug in adapter all laptops should work, with just the Power Adapter connected, if it doesn't then it is faulty.. well that OR laptop.. When you get a new charger you will need to leave charging at least overnight to recharge the battery.

My notebook refuses to turn on, i've switch outlets, double check that all connections are curretly connected, I've taken the battery off waited a few then put it back on - but still nothing, it just wont...

There are a few possible causes.
  • Your computer is coming on, but your screen is out and you just cant tell. You should see light come on and hear a few noises from the cd drive and hard drive.
  • Your power supply is bad (the corded thinggy)
  • Your battery is bad and has damaged the cord too.
  • The plug in the back of the computer is damaged (Possibly from a bad battery melting the connector)
  • You computer has lightning/surge damage and is just broken
  • The motherboard has failed completely
First, test the simple things.
  1. Remove your battery and try to start with only the cord.
  2. Check the plug that the power supply plugs into. Is it loose does it wiggle? It may need replaced/repaired
  3. Plug the power cord back in and wiggle do any of the light flicker? This may confirm step 2.
  4. Take your computer to a simple repair shop and see if they have a power supply you can try. REMOVE your battery first. If it works, great! Get the power supply.
  5. If none of these are the problem, leave the computer at the repair place for them to look at. There are a few other problems, but you probably cant check those yourself.

If the power LED on the Notebook is blinking but not turning ON then the issue is related to the power supply unit and service is required.

Dell d600 will not power up. When connected to AC power the green led will go out. Is this a jack problem or a internal supply or what???

well, if you try more than one wall outlet and you have that issue, it is possible that you may have a bad plug. you can always buy a power supply at radio shack or best buy. and test it. or the best solution is go to a local computer repair shop, i'm sure they have plugs to try and see if it powers up.

My Toshiba m205 4806 shuts down spontaneously. The lap top feels warm but the fan is running. any suggestions?

The cpu get overheated and will shtdown to protect it. The fan continues to run until a CPU safe temperature is reached / sustained.

1. Use laptop on flat surface, not on pillow, carpet, bed, etc. that will restrict air flow. Using a can of compressed air, clear the air vents.

2. If the symptom continues, then the heat conductive paste between the cpu chip and the heatsink is no longer effective (hardened, too thin, etc.). Remove the heatsink and add thermal paste
($6 Radio Shack).

try pulling the battery out then with the power supply connected see if it starts, if it does then your battery is bad and is bringing down the power from the power supply.
