Would a penny and a nickel sitting upright in the space at the bottom of the tub between edge of the agitator and tub cause this noise
Possible bearing failure but if only a year old, it should be under warranty. Check around the spin bowl for any foreign objects sticking through the tub. Perhaps a bra wire or nail , screw etc or something has come out and stuck in the tub.

yes, they could. If there are other coins stuck between the tubs, they will rattle around and hit the tub when its spinning. Check your pockets before putting the washing in. To get the coins out you normally have to take the spin tub out. Not an easy job. You may be able to get some of them by removing the agitator. I'm not sure how they come out on your machine.
