Setting the Date:

there is no ink cartridge on thermal, the paper is what shows the print, with a heating element hitting the paper. If it is not dark enought, try different thermal paper.

check to see if the papers have folded edges or are moist. if they are folded try straightening them out and dry if moist

It may be the same as the 110DX, but I couldn't find the manual for the 210DX . This is from page 37 of the 110DX manual. TO CLEAR THE GRAND TOTAL:
1. Set the Control Switch to the "PRG" (Program Mode) position.
2. Type [2], type [0], then press [R/A].
After this operation, the grand total resets to zero.
