The scratch and dent wholesaler who is selling it in my neighborhood had reduced the price significantly, however, there is no hose with the set. He suggested going to Home Depot and buying a 5 inch hose, though I don't see any on the Home Depot website for sale and am also worried about the fit of a non-Danby brand hose. I have been Googling trying to find a Danby parts supplier so I can find out the cost of the original hose with no luck. Does anyone know of a work-around for using a non-Danby hose? Is is safe to use a generic hose and where can I buy one? thank you in advance.
Mae

- Hi co7196,
Thanks for your response. I have not purchased the portable A/C unit from the scratch and dent wholesaler as yet. Because the price sounded too good to be true, and he made the missing hose fix sound so simple, I thought I would ask here on this website before I purchased it, so I do not have a picture. This is a link to the product manual from the Danby website: http://www.danby.ca/cms/uploads/products/en_manual/dpac13009EFOM_EFOM_final.pdf

- I don't believe the unit was stolen. as I'd mentioned in my first post, it is being sold by a scratch and dent wholesaler. It is a business with a physical address that is open to the public and they mostly sell appliances that have been on display at major stores but they also sell referbished, scratched and dented merchandise. When I saw their advertisement for the portable A/C unit I emailed customer service to ask what was wrong with it, and when they said it was missing hoses and I could buy new ones at Home Depot, it sounded wrong, because each portable A/C has its own manufacturer hose, and you must have the hose properly attached in order for it to work. It just seems to me that they are waiting for someone to buy it and then make that person deal with trying to actually use it. I think I'll take a pass on this one. Thank you.
Mae; I'm sorry to hear another good deal went bad. Door to door wholesale is a way to sell items that can't be sold in stores.. If you take a picture of what the hose connecta to and send it to me, I'll see what I can do. Explain the purpose of this hose andthe measurement of the connector outside diameter. The picture will say alot, I would appreciate it. e-mail the picture to co7196@yahoo.com and we'll figure out something.

- Very smart Mae, I recognize you for your good sense. Often those kind of units end up as stolen because the hose and other peripherals come in a kit apart from the unit itself. If unpackaged there should be suspect that the unit may have been stolen from a residence and removal of the attachments takes to long. So, all they end up with is the unit. I'm not a goody goody, but having been in law enforcement and socially exposed to those without concience has put me seriously skeptical about any g"good" deal Very good thinking Mae. I doubt he will return, if he does ask for affiliate ID, take his licence no. down and call it in to the P.D. You are one lady we don't need to worry about.- Ned -

The remote control does not seem to work at all. The indicators are all working, but it does not seem to be communicating with the unit or controlling it. Basically, I turn on the unit with the on/off switch on the front and it does it's best... The remote control does not really respond at all. When I unpacked the unit, the indicator worked on "blue" to indicate cooling for about 10mins, now it just stays on "yellow" and the remote control does not seem to change anything, and the unit cycles automatically between cooling and fan. About every 5minutes or so. The unit is cooling ok, but it is not working to its potential, and I cannot use any of the settings and controls on the remote. Basically, I just turn it on and it has a mind of its own... Do I have to "reset" the unit somehow to get the remote to communicate?

The red blinking light won't go off (i.e., A/C won't work) despite emptying internal tank, attaching external tank, and attempting to drain sump (nothing came out). What is the problem? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I seemed to have done all troubleshooting as referenced in the instructions. Thanks, Sweaty and Tired

FIrst of all, remote control doesn't seem to work well. Second of all, when I put the machine on dehumidifier, the light turns yellow and it barely drains any water. When we first got it ( 2 weeks ago) we had the issue with the air conditioning starting off blue and turning yellow, but it seemed to fix itself after a couple of days. Not sure what to do about the dehumidifier....and not sure if we should keep the air conditioner or bring it back...anyone have good experiences with this thing?
