Help me!!! Black screen ONLY!

Help me!!! My laptop starts up and I can hear it, but there is only a black screen. I tried hooking it up to another monitor to see if the screen was dead, but nothing showed on it either. Could it be my video card and how can I tell if it is?

IF you hooked another monitor to your laptop did you transfer the screen to the other monitor if so and you got nothing i would say that you had a video card problem. it may be time to get a new laptop it will cost you about 1/2 the cost of a new one to fix it.

From your description you have a display issue, you can hook a monitor to the video output to rule out the video graphics chip, if okay! the LCD screen on the laptop will need to be replaced, you can check prices at www.ebay.com type make and model of laptop, refine search to screen.

Mac Laptop has black screen

Try starting in safe mode, this usually bypasses the graphics drivers, which could be in a funky state:
To start up in safe mode

Shut down your computer and wait 10 seconds.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key.
You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after your hear the startup tone, but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator (spinning gear).

Repair installation

Sorry to cover the basics but you cant be too careful. have you set your bios to boot from cd? Also when the cd tries to load you should have to tap any key to go into it. If all these thing are covered you have two more likely faults. 1. Faulty Ram. 2.Faulty drive
