Just make sure that all the nuts and bolts are tight otherwise replace the cord which might have lost its strength and may have become elastic.

This is a pretty old thread, but I just fixed the same problem on mine. Disassemble the 2 side covers on the bottom unit. Mounted on the front post is the magnetic brake controller this is what controls the peddling resistance. The potentiometer (round device with 3 wires soldered to it) needs a shot of electronic contact cleaner - available at Home depot or Radio Shack - a short burst into the opening above the wires will clean it, then use the level control to make it run from L1 to L16 to further clean the contact surface.

To much resistance

please see the comments and proceeds for fix it. God bless you

Be aware that the resistance is often the part that requires repair. Resistance is managed magnetically, so often if the machine is working, but the resistance isn't setting correctly or at all, check the bolts that secure the magnets. If they are loose, the resistance will slip. If the bolts are fine, check the magnets themselves by using a refrigerator magnet and see if it is attracted or repelled by the your fridge magnet. If not, the magnets have de-magnetized and need to be replaced.
