Re: computer is freezing

If it works in safe mode but not in normal mode, then it is probably a driver issue. I know that you've said that you've updated all of the drivers, but that really is the most common problem. (corruption in the file system.)
that said, click on >start>run and type in "msconfig" (without quotes)
Choose "diagnostic startup", restart your computer and see if it still freezes.
If it does, then it's probably your windows file system that's corrupted.
If it doesn't freeze, go back in to msconfig and turn on things one by one, restart in between, and keep going until you find out what is freezing it.
It may take a while, but that is the SAFEST way I know.

Windows won't load or instal

Freezing of computers occur mostly due to shortage of RAM. But in ur case, 1GB is quite enough for XP. Since ur computer is freezing b4 even starting up, thus it could be a problem of disk drives.check if more than 1 drive have been alloted MASTER (Primary) or otherwise same priority. If u have more than 1 HDD, then the one in which the Opering System is installed should be given the Master Primary and the other as Cable select/slave. Likewise do it for the CD/DVD ROM or RAM (the CD/DVD RAM should be alloted the master and ROM as the slave). It can be done by the JUMPERs on the back of the Drives. See the exact setup on the drive surface.

PC Freezing !

Update BIOS to P25*%20XP%20Professional&lang=eng

Reset BIOS to default settings.

Check CPU Temperature, Prescott CPUs run hot.

If board is under 3 years old and was a retail box package, it will be under warranty, contact Intel.

You should try to test your memory (before windows boots.See download) to make sure the sticks are good. Download this. Next try using a program called Process Explorer to locate hanging modules of your computer. This will help you narrow it down.

Computer freeze

Hi, open your case and remove your heatsink and fan, completely clean all dust from it, apply new paste and then remove your RAM, dust off that and the dimm slots. Replace the ram firmly and that should cure your problems. regards mistyman

If your pc is well ventillated and you know there is no heat problem, it could be that there is a trojan or virus running in the back ground, so run a spyware and virus scan. Im assuming that you have tried system restore back a couple of months to before this started You may also and i suspect that it's a driver problem especially if you have updated windows and a hardware driver has been updated to a windows generic one. to give a clue as to the problem go to control panel>administartive tools>event viewer and look in all the catagories on the left hand side of the window and click on them which will highlight on the right all the things that have run and look for any red crosses as to point to what the problem may be. If you see one right click on it and click properties and it should take you to microsoft for a solution.
