My Wheel Horse tractor starter won't engage

The thing quit on me , I replaced the starter, Solenoid and Battery, and all it does is spin when the key is turned. It does not throw out and engage. What am I missing? Possibly the Rectifier? I am leaning towards a bad ground. Help please. I thought I saw the same problem here, but cant find it again.

You have a bad drive gear (flywheel ring ) or a bendix problem. try replacing the starter drive gear (bendix).

Turn key get nothing jump starter and sylenoid just spins

i cant dope out that symptoms.

does it crank or not. be clear there.

no car starts (but my 6sp) if it dont crank.

on A/T cars cranking is a first thing. so does it.?

Solenoids do not spin, the stroke only , it a linear motion.

the Sol. moves the pinion and the main contactor switch only.

my guess is the Starter spins and the crank don\'t spin,

you hear the starter motor spin up, it sings. like bird.

that means the starter /solenoid are bad. (crude)

if the battery is good and or jumper starting off a running car.

It can just be a dirty starter pinion, clean it , repeat.

fixed many for this. i have.

battery cable lugs clean, and good. no green rust.

bad cable usually just make a loud THUNK sound. no spin.

Tora Lawn Tractor Won't Start . Wheel Horse 13-38 XL

It is not uncommon for a safety switch to get misaligned and not work correctly, also it is not uncommon for a switch not to work even if it is engaged.
You need to check all the switches that must all be properly aligned and engaged in order for the engine to start. As for the light blue wire, I am not sure 100% however typically blue wireds on wheel horse equipment are used in the ignition system. Depending on your model it may be the main ignition power line which runs from the ignition switch (S) connection or (start) connection, then goes to PTO interlock switch, then goes to the Pedal interlock switch, then finally to the starter solenoid. Which sounds like where you have to look because along this blue wire at many points and switches, there is a problem either with a connection (the lose blue wire) or a bad interlock switch along it's way to the starter solenoid. You should also check the PTO interlock switch because it also is connected to a kill relay that will prevent the engine from starting id it is faulty (that light click your hearing, the starter solenoid would be a louder click).
There is a typical ignition service manual available at http://www.mywheelhorse.com/graphics/file/Engines/Engine-Electrical_Service-Manual.pdf It has the typical wireing diagram and all the information you will need presuming you have enough electrical background to use a multimeter.
The website at http://www.scribd.com/doc/47347708/Toro-wheelhorse-Demystification-Electical-wiring-diagrams-for-all-WheelHorse-tractors has diagrams specific for each model but you have to make an account (free) to use the website, and lastly the website http://www.mywheelhorse.com is a invaluable website for anyone who owns a Wheel Horse. Let me know what you figure out!

Jon Deere mower LX277 won't crank

Try replacing the starter solenoid. If that doesn't do it, try replacing the whole starter.

TO-30 quit running, puff of smoke from electrical? Won't turn over

It is possible to have the solenoid go bad but not while the tractor is running as it is only used to engage the starter. It sounds like the wires to the starter is shorted out. I would run a hot wire to the solenoid from the battery to the solenoid and see if it will start. Just be sure everything is grounded. If the ground cable on the battery is ok you should not have a problem with running a hot wire to the solenoid. Just touch the hot wire to the starter and then release it when the starter engages. Hope this helps.

Tractor won't start replaced solenoid - get power from key to solenoid but nothing from solenoid to starter. all terminals clean, new battery tks

You have two safety interlocks that must be "made" before the engine will start.
The brake must be engaged.
The blades must be disengaged.
There may be a neutral safety too.
All of these switches must be closed to get ignition.

Hello i need some advise on my wheelhorse mower model c120 12hp it was starting on the key but now it is sending power to the solanoide but is no longer engaging the starter motor. any ideas on what...

I assume you have a Kohler engine and a standard original Wheel Horse wiring. It sounds as though either your solenoid is defective, or the solenoid has a bad earth. If you have current arriving at the positive side of the solenoid from the key when in cranking position and you're sure the solenoid is grounding properly then it's the solenoid itself. As a check you could flash the solenoid and your motor should crank: MAKE SURE THE MOWER IS IN NEUTRAL AND BLADES DISENGAGED. This will prove that the starter motor is good. It's then a matter of replacing the solenoid...a straightforward bolt job, please disconnect the battery as a grounding flash when refitting the solenoid could cause generator failure.

18 horse Intec. Starter gear will not go up to

Check to see if you have the wires on the starter or the wires on the battery reversed. This will cause the starter to spin in the wrong direction. I've accidently hooked my battery up backwards and this happened. The spinning of the starter causes the gear to go up. If it spins the wrong way, nothing happens.
