If you take the system apart, check the blu ray optical sensor. its the really small board on the top front of the BluRay player. if it is positioned wrong it wont accept disks correctly. its worth a shot, and a easy fix. if you dont want to try that , i would suggest sending it to sony or selling it.

Wen i put the disc in the ps3 it wont show up wer it usually does after a while after i put the disc in it makes the nois like its coming out but it dosent plz help me!

This happened to me once, hopefully it is not the issue. What i suggest doing is, trying a variety of different disk(e.g. one game, one dvd, and one Blu-ray) That way we can establish if its the PS3 or the disk you are using. Now on the top right hand side when you insert a disk you should see a loading disk sign( would look like a clear whirlpool spinning) if it shows up but no disk appears it could be your Blu-ray laser went out. After that what you can do is to attempt a system reset. Make sure you have all your info backed up, if not you can still plug in a USB Thumb Drive(make sure it has enough space in it to back up your ps3 though) or a External Hard Drive with (also sufficient space) and back up your info. ([Settings]>[System Settings]>[Backup Utility]>Back Up).

Once that is done, Hold the power button while the PS3 is powering up until you hear three beeps. These signal that the PS3 has received the manual system reset command.
Prompt through the initial setup menu to continue resetting the PS3.
Select "Format" from the system menu to format and finish a complete system reset for the PS3.

Once that is finished attempt to place in you disks. If the issue persist , then it is the laser that is having the issue and you will have to contact Sony to file a repair ticket. If your under warranty or have the extended warranty then it will not be at charge. (Make sure you have your proof of purchase,date/receipt to prove warranty) If not you will have to pay out of pocket which i believe is 150 US Dollars.

I wanna know why my ps3 wont play games or show the disk icon

You can try the steps below. Its from PlayStation Forum:

1. Turn off Playstation®3.
2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

The current Recovery Menu supports:
• Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION®3 System.
• Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default.
• Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files.
• Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION®3.
• Restore PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch.
• System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION®3 System

If the above steps still does not solve the problem, then I think will have to update your Ps3.

Update your PS3 (in the settings menu the 1st option).

Go on the internet browser on the PS3 then go on the menu press triangle then on one of them there are delete cookies and the delete the others as
well as cookies.

You could also try this as well: put the PS3 on then press the eject button (with no disc in) then hold it and switch the PS3 off at the back with your finger on the eject button still holding it, then put it back on and the fan test should be working this may cool it down. It might be over heating.

But if your problem is not still solved, then maybe you should call sony for further assistance.

I wish you good luck

Old ps3 wont turn on, want to retrieve game saves for new ps3

You have the yellow light of death (YLOD). You won't be able to turn on your old ps3 until you get it repaired. OR you CAN put your old hard drive in the new system then do the backup option from the system menu. It will have you upload the data to an external usb drive or Ipod or flash memory drive. Then put your new hard drive back in and do the system recovery option. Hope that helps.

My ps3 wont play games, dosent recognoise the disk.but it will still play non blu ray dvds

Try to restore file system on your ps3.
Follow this guide.

1. Make sure the ps3 is plugged in (stand by mode).
2. Put out your usb cable for the controller and the controller itself (do not connect yet).
3. Hold down power firmly, ps3 will turn on and then turn off, release power button when t turns off.
4. Hold down power again, you will hear a beep and then a double beep, when you hear that double beep release the power button.
5. Now you should be seeing something in your monitor that say "Connect usb controller", do just that.
6. After connecting the controller press PS button.
7. You are now in the recovery menu.
8. To fix the problem of corrupt data you can choose #3.
9. If you want to format your hard drive choose #5. Be aware that this option will delete everything that is in your hard drive.
10. Remember that doing #3 and #5 is not 100% to fix the problem of corrupt data, I say about 70%.

When i put the disk in it wont load so i can play it what is wrong you can hear it spining

The lens on the PS3 might have developed a fault which is preventing it from reading a disc. Try cleaning the lens with a dvd disc cleaner first. If you can hear is spinning then its most likely a lens fault.

Wont read the hard disk,

Hello baddestsob,

Most likely you need a new hard drive. Just take out the one you have and get the same exact one or even one with more GB. You can get them on eBay for about $20-50 (US). Just be very careful not to mess up the screws that hold the hard drive onto the holder. This should save you some money.
If your PS3 is still in warranty then call Sony.

I hope this helps. Good luck!!

Ps3 disk reading error

Can you be any more specific? is this a problem with one disk, one type of disk or all disks? What is the exact error you are getting? Are you trying to play a game, play a film, play an audio CD or are you using your PS3 as a Linux computer and trying to open a data disk? have you tried more than one disk? Without specifics there's just no way to guess what the problem is.
