How do you reset the OKI c5800 drum?

I see on other printer fix sites its possible to reset the drum life on 5500s 9300s and many other okis but have not yet come across the solution for my c5800. Any help out there?

You don't need to go through all that mess of replacing the fuse. The tone gets everywhere and getting the Drum unit back together with all the gears and shafts lining up is a real pain.
The Drum reset system is very simple. When the printer powers up and runs through its system check, one of the tests energizes the erase LED array built into the Drum unit. The reset fuse routes a small amount of low voltage current off this LED array. There is a contact on the end of the Drum unit that the printer senses. It there is voltage there (ie the fuse is good), the printer resets that Drums counter to 100%. If there is no voltage (ie the fuse is blown), the printer continues on its way.
All you have to do it act like fuse at the instant the printer sends power to the LED array.
There's no soldering, no screws to undo, and no toner all over the place.
The best thing is it takes about 3 minutes start to finish and cost $0.00!
Here's what you need:
• A simple volt/amp meter (an analog one works best, but digital is fine also) • Two pieces of thin wire about 300mm long. I used old telco wire. With insulation, its about 1mm wide. • A pair of scissors to strip the wire ends • X-acto or thin razor knife

1) Strip about 4-5mm off the one end of each wire and 25mm off the other end. Bend the 5mm end at a 90 degree angle right at the base of the stripped part. 2) Pull out the Drum unit (leave the toner cartridge attached to the Drum unit) 3) On the right end of the Drum unit (DU) there are three square brass contacts about 3mm wide. The right end is the end with the blue handle. Looking at the end of the DU, you are interested in the 1st and 2nd contacts from the left (they are the two closest to the screws on a c5800 cartridge) 4) Use the X-acto knife to lift the contact metal and slide the 90 bent end of the wire under the contact. Do this with the other wire on contact #2. 5) Put a little vertical tension on the wires and route them around the blue toner release handle. 6) Gently insert the DU/toner cartridge into the printer. Keep slight tension on the wires until the unit is seated. 7) Wrap the 25mm stripped end of the wires around the volt meter leads. Wrap one so it makes electrical contact, but you could pull it apart instantly at the right time. 8) Set your voltmeter to the lowest amp setting. I put mine on 200micro amps. Also make sure your voltmeter leads are in the correct holes of the voltmeter. You want the amperage or milliAmp holes not the voltage holes. Don't forget to turn the meter on. 9) Get prepared to pull one of the leads off of the one of the thin wires and turn on the printer. Don't be afraid to touch the metal of the wire; the voltage/amperage supplied to the LED array is very low and will not hurt you. A 9 volt flashlight battery is more dangerous. 10) About 10 seconds into the startup routine, you will see you voltmeter display a reading. Instantly pull the leads apart.
Congratulations, you are now officially a 1/16amp fuse.
Your printer will reset the Drum Unit counter and you have another 20K impressions (if the image quality is acceptable to you)
If you have any question, just respond to this post. I'll get the email and answer you.
Good Luck.
Paul

    Hi Paul,
I found your directions to be very concise, however I followed them for use on my C5500 toner and I was not successful if reseting my toner cartridge. I used a analog volt meter set on OHMS to x1K, I hooked it up as you directed and turned the power on and like you say within 10 seconds I seen a pulse of energy and I quickly removed the wire from one of the leads to my meter. It started to continue its start up process but then it read "Check Toner Cartridge/Toner Sensor Error 542C" I tried the process three more times including checking the leads and made sure I seated the drum properly, I received the same message each time.
Any advice would be so much appreciated if you could direct me on what I could have done wrong.

The instructions were great! i however did this without a meter just with timing counting approximatively 9-13 seconds at the start of ram check depending on which drum is being reset i went over a couple of times before getting it right, if you do the printer gives you a fatal error (dont worry!) just turn off and repeat the procedure i manage to reset Y,M,C drums to 100 my k drum is at 53% so i will ride this one out. Great info Paul best regards. Laredo Texas.

C5800 is the same as the C5500. It is also fuse inside each drum cartridge that needs blowing in order to reset the drum counter. Only works when printer is in "Replace the drum unit" state.

Message saying drum unit life on OKI PRINTER C510dn

This model OKI printer is not an inkjet printer, it is a color laser printer. and uses color toner cartridges.
The printer image drum unit has reached the end of its service life and this drum unit needs to be replaced.

I suggest you Google the Internet for an OKI image drum unit for your model printer, You will get various suppliers and their prices.
The image drum unit will cost approx. A$200

My Oki C5800 says "Replace Belt, 355: Belt Life" but I was told I could reset it without changing it if it was still good. How?

requires a fuse that sits underneath the transfer belt. However the belt itself would be full of waste toner that would need to be emptied

Most of the OKI printers have a fuse installed in the drum to do the reset. If you google the drum reset kit you can find the drum kits and fuses.
