Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Was successfully running wireless router (Belkin N1) in my home, then decided to go to VOIP phone. COMCAST replaced my modem with an RCA DHG536 Voice & Data Gateway. Now, I can only access the internet when I have the RCA attached directly to my computer. Wireless no longer works. The RCA and my router seem to be trying to communicate (lights flashing on both the router and the RCA), but there is no internet accessibility. Seems to be a number of hits on this problem when Googled, but looking to see if anywhere here knows how to fix.

did not work; the Belkin has a "modem" icon on it and when I did this, that icon flashed yellow. lights on the RCA and the Belkin indicate there is "chatter"...but not successful.

Try this to start with, turn off (unplug power) from both the RCA device and your Belkin router. Then plug the RCA device into the router via the network cable, still both devices should have power unplugged. Then, go ahead and turn on the RCA device. Wait a good 45 seconds, then go ahead and turn on the Beklin device. Let me know, this should help them sync up.

You should be able to plug your computer into the belkin now and it should work. Let me know if it does not.

Thanks much

Tim

And you are directly connected into the router when you are trying this? Make sure you dont start out trying wireless, try wired first out of the router. If you are it may be possible that the two are not compatible for some reason. Did you set up the Belkin router originally? If so you can log into the belkin router and reset all settings, but you shouldnt need to if you've always had comcast...

    Thanks let me know

Grab the latest firmware for the router, get it from:

    http://www.belkin.com/support/article/?l...

Should be 5.xx at the bottom. If it still doesnt work I would call back Comcast and tell them you want a different modem for your cable. Do you have comcast for phone line as well? Is that why they gave you the phone / internet bridge?

    Thanks
    Tim

Do i need a modem? if so which are compatible?

When you speak to Comcast you should see if they are providing you with a wireless modem/router that will be everything you need.

If so, you will not need the Belkin router as Comcast will supply you with the hardware you need. If they only give you a modem, your Belken wireless router should work fine with the Comcast modem.

Hope that helps!

Belkin N1 Wireless Modem Router I cannot connect to Tiscali HELP

I had this with Bt Internet and this exact same router, you have to phone Belkin up and they give you a complete set of new settings that you manually have to put in during setup. If i remember rightly its a free phone number and the operator who answered spoke semi-english so not all bad, hope this helps.

Major issues

I had the same problem. My Belkin N1 Router was constantly dropping the WiFi connection (every few minutes). I tried several solutions I found on different forums:

Change the channel selection from Auto to a specific channel -- I tried all 13 channels, but no improvement.

Update the firmware to the latest (Beta) version -- still no improvement.

Finally I enabled "Protected Mode" and the connection seems fine now.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Belkin wireless router installation with a laptop that has an internal modem

Depending on the operating system that you are running, and if you have the appropriate wireless cards, you should be able to do this either with or without the modem. If you have the modem connected to one computer, and wireless cards on both computers, then your best option would be to just connect directly from one computer to the next. If you can tell me the answers to these few questions, I can help you get on the right path.

What operating system are you running? Windows XP? Vista? Macintosh?

Do both of your computers have wireless network cards? If not, then which computers have the wireless network, and which computer has the modem?

Belkin n1 wireless usb adapter

Dear Friend,

1. Connect your ISP modem to your PC and configure as Bridge mode.

2. Remove your ISP modem and connect your wireless router to your PC and configure as PPPOE mode. (refer http://www.wi-fiplanet.com/reviews/article.php/3645166 if any doubt on configuration)

3. Now connect your ISP modem to wireless router, The modem should connect to your WAN cable.

4. And Give the wireless router's IP in your laptop as Gateway (In TCPIP settings of your Laptop wireless adapter / or configure DHCP)

5. Now you can access internet on both systems.

Belkin N1 Router connection drops when phone rings

You may have a phone line connected from the modem to a wall outlet. Count the number of cables coming out of your modem - you should have only three: the power cable (connects to the wall), Cat 5 (also connects to the wall), and ethernet (running from the modem to the router).
