Question about Symantec WinFax Pro for PC

1 Answer

Faxing Problems Hello, We are a 911 center that uses winfax to fax police and fire departments call sheets from our C.A.D system. We provide service for 56 departments. Of these departments there are 4 that we cannot fax to using winfax. We can fax to these departments using a regular fax machine in the dispatch room.  We have take a know (Working) fax machine to these locations and still experience the same problem. It appears the far end machine recognizes the incoming call but then terminates the call. We have forced it manually also without any luck. These locations are from different Central Offices.  I was wondering if the overall loop is too long.  Does winfax add any loss to the circuit. Gene Miketa Beaver County Emergency Services Center

Re: Faxing Problems

Does winfax add any loss to the circuit. No.
Try increasing the "time-out" setting. This terminates an attempt after waiting too long for handshake. It's been a while since I used Winfax, so I don't remember where that setting is located. However, it may possibly be done at Windows control panel. Look for the "printers and faxes" icon then select the advanced Tab and try different print spool options also.

Notification when fax arrives

In the 90s, cell phone companies and pager companies use to provide a seperate phone number answered by a computer that you could dial with your computer modem which would page/text a specific device you specified.

Most cell phone companies no longer offer this service.

WinFax/TalkWorks can notify your pager or cellular phone (using SMS messaging) whenever new faxes or voice messages arrive.

WinFax/TalkWorks works with Tone Only, Numeric, Personalized Numeric, and Alphanumeric pagers. To use the pager notification feature, you must know:

1.the capabilities of your pager/cellular phone
2. the telephone numbers WinFax/TalkWorks must dial to connect to your service provider
3. your personal identification number (if your pager supports this feature)

I can't send to certain fax machines with WinFax Pro

Yes, some modems might have problems with Service Pack 3. You might need to update the Windows modem drivers.

Alternatively, there might be problems with the settings in WinFax for your specific modem.

You'll need to post more information on the fax modem you are using.

Winfax pro suddenly faxing to wrong number

you have some options, so choose one.
  1. remove your fax
  2. configure your fax to answer later (maybe after ringing 10 times) and configure the winfax to answer before (something like ringing 5 times or less)
the problem here is that the fax answer and start receiving the fax and the winfax receive the fax signal at same time. check the winfax maybe you have the half part that the fax modem not has printed stored in winfax, maybe.

as I said, your better choice is removing the fax modem. even configuring like I said before, maybe the two continue to try to receive the fax at same time.

hope it helps.

Fax once,Received Twice?

It is mostly likely on your end. Sometimes if the line drops or for some reason the fax is interrupted it will resend the entire fax. I wouldn't worry about it unless it's faxing twice each time. If it is, check the settings closely in the software to be sure there isn't something strange set to send twice.
