Question about Canon Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

The yellow ink stops laying down color at the end of a print. This happens on a ''short'' (8X10) print or a ''long'' (19X13) print. In either case the last 3/4'' of the print is lacking the yellow color. I have done a ''deep cleaning'' several times (6 or so). I have also cleaned off the pad where the print head parks when the printer is powered-down. The test pattern printed after the deep cleanings is consistent: all other colors are spot on. The yellow, however, lays down only the first 1/2 to 2/3 of the test pattern. Is this a print head problem?

You suggest that I "get a q-tip with either some rubbing alcohol or distilled water. Remove the print cartridge, power off the printer, and rub the gold contacts on both the cartridge and the contacts on the inside of the carraige cartridge holder."

I will try this tomorrow or the next day. Just one clarification: the yellow does work until the last 1/10 or so of the page. So somehow this appears to be a problem that has to do with the yellow turning off near the end of the print run. So... I'll try your suggestion and report back. Thanks.

Check for the ink levels for yellow. If it is low then it is time to replace the cartridge.

what could be happening is the contacts between the cartridge and the holder could be clogged with ink, causing the signal to the cartridge to be lost ( I've actually run into this many times in the past. )

what I suggest you do is, get a q-tip with either some rubbing alcohol or distilled water. Remove the print cartridge, power off the printer, and rub the gold contacts on both the cartridge and the contacts on the inside of the carraige cartridge holder.

If this does not help
The contact for the cartridge may have been damaged so when the printer prints it is not getting the signal to use the yellow cartridge. This means you need to contact your manufacturer for support/ replacement.

Kindly comment.

first you have to drain the ink... to do this after making a master with a heavy image on it.
1. turn off the machine and start it up while holding left and right print position buttons. when machine starts up you will see a number ... press the c or stop or yellow clear to reset that to 0000.
2. place paper in the paper tray and enter 888 and press start.
3. the machine will start printing .. let it print jntil the image is very light and press stop.
4. press the c clear or stop button to reset display to 0000 the new color you want into the drum and enter code 890 and perss start.
6. hold down the yellow reset button u til the machine restarts.
7. all done! but please note you will have color mixing and banding for a few thousnad copies until the old color gets purged, there is no way around this.

Brother MFC 5860cn magenta color is not printing. I printed the test page and did cleaning on it but the magenta color is not showing on the test page. The only colors showing are Black, Yellow, Cayan.

This can happen if the ink dries out for a long time. Try to power flush the color that doesn't work.

Press the Menu/Set, *, 2, 8, 6 and 4 keys within two seconds. (if you fail to complete the correct key sequence within two seconds, press the Stop key to try again).

press 7 then 6 then 4 then start black copy. This will fill the tubes with ink.

press 7 then 6 then 3 then start black copy. You may use the right arrow to choose the color you want to flush before you press the black copy button.

Press 99 to exit maintenance mode

Press the ink button and do a test print for print quality and see if the color you flushed works. If not, try again.

This is the only way to fix the dried print head. Otherwise you have to replace the print head, in which case, you might as well buy a new printer.

Color printing not working

I just posted this same solution to another related question.

It may be time for desperate measures!

I have a PIXMA MP 750 and months ago my yellow ink stopped printing. I was only able to use the printer for black and white printing. Every once in awhile I would try multiple deep cleans, new ink cartridges, etc. etc. I posted my problem to this site, but didn't get any response. I talked to the very unhelpful folks at Canon who suggested a new print head ($70), but they couldn't guarantee this would actually work. They really thought it would be best just to buy a new printer.

Although I was feeling bad about adding yet another cheap printer to the landfill I'd pretty much decided to get a new printer. As a last resort I decided to use a suggestion I came across (at to run hot water through the print head. It was easy to remove the print head (check your manual). I propped the head up in my dish drainer and ran hot water straight from the tap first through the end with the little circular parts and then through the end with the metal strips. I eventually used boiling water from the kettle.

As I poured water through one end I started to see yellow ink coming though the other end so I figured the ink had dried in the head. I kept pouring water through (from both ends) until the water ran clear. I dried the print head, put it back in with the cartridges and VOILA! after MONTHS without yellow ink it's working beautifully again!

If you've tried everything else and feel desperate enough to buy a new printer you might want to try this and report back.

Balck ink not working

This is what worked (so far) with my Dell1.gif AIO A940 printer1.gif that wouldn't print black ink.

It worked for awhile when I chose photo/glossy paper, but then it quit printing again (see below).

I got it to print, again, by putting SEVERAL papers in the feeder (instead of just 1) - there is a sensor that is supposed to automatically detect paper type, and it might not be working right, especially with one or only a couple of sheets.
