My DVD RW won't read anything. The little disk image appears but I never hear it spin up. When I click on the icon on my computer, a window comes up that says to insert disk even though a disk is already...

click start control panel, administrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll to cd/dvd rom drives right click properties then properties again then tick enable cd digital cd audio for this cd rom device or scroll to dvd regions select the no _ for your specific area or if this fails to fix the problem
make sure that the dvd burner is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the dvd burner including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty or
your drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program
you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd burner then plug them back in or
you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device
click start control panel administrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd dvd rom drives right click you can you can update driver, roll back driver,or
select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall

if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem

Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
if these fail to fix the problem

It could be a problem withthe lens, you should try cleaning the lens, it's already gone bad there is no harm in trying If you take a little risk can solve . follow the instruction: Don't panic its very simply. 1. When running your pc , open the drawer.> 2. switch off the acpower 3. remove powercable & sata or pata cable 4. remove all the screw from the back side 5. press clip to open the font panel 6. reverse the cd/dvd rw 7. just remove the cover 8. clean the optical lance 9. use a little( not much )oil place on two steel shaft 10.cover all the equipment you can fit to your pc Ifit does the same problem please change the cd/dvd rw because the lance has defected..

HELP! DVD-ROM not working! recently i bought Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and nothing is happening when i insert the disk into the drive. All i hear is some noises, like the disk is trying to be read. I...

not necessarily... if the game works on other computers... it isn't the game... make sure there's no dust... dirt... fingerprints... ect. on the disk... open the drive... get a can of air... use the straw... and blow it out... if it still doesn't work... then the drive might not support that game... and you'll need to upgrade it.

I have a HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4040N drive in stalled in an emachine Laptop, the drive will read data, cds music and dvd movies, but can not burn either cds or dvd...Depending on which program i use for...

well there could be a few things you can try
1) update the firmware and see if it works any better
2) try brand name DVD-R disks and CD-R disks
3) try an updated hack firmware such as these
4) try Nero Lite. it is free and it supports almost any drive.

I would not worry about the driver as they normmally would not need any.

Cant' open or even FIND the CD Rom disk thing where you put the .

Not trying to insult your intelligence, but let me ask this? Do you know if your CD, or DVD drive is a burner drive, first of all?
Generally on the outside of the drive unit, it will have CD-R/RW for a CD burner, and DVD-R/RW for a DVD burner. (Read-Read/Write. It will Read from a disk, and also write back to it)

You can also check the Device Manager, and see how this drive, or if you have more than one, both drives are listed.

Left-click on Start>Right-click on My Computer>Left-click on Properties>Left-click on the Hardware tab, then go down, and Left-click on Device Manager.
Give Device Manager a second or so, to load.

Now Left-click on the -> + sign next to CD/DVD-ROM drives. If your optical drive is a burner drive, it will have RW in the name.

If you know the optical drive in question, (If you have more than one optical drive, be sure your blank CD-R disk is in the burner drive), is indeed a burner drive, let's go on.

Download the school picture to your My Pictures folder. By default it should go there. Then go to My Pictures, (Start>My Pictures), and find the photo.
Left-click on the photo. There will now be a blue frame around it. Go up to the top left side, and left-click on -> Copy to CD.

Latitude C840 wont reconize optical drive in BIOS

When you get no disk error, that is usually because of a problem with the optical laser lens that is dirty, faulty or opaque, and will start operating on certain disks better than others.

In that case you will hear disk spinning, whirring and clicking, but the TOC (table of content track at start of CD/DVD will not be read, therefore the error.

Whe this problem is starting you may be able to read only CD, DVD or Blue ray, or for example only DVD-R and not +R , or only to read and not to write and so on. After more prolonged usage , often the unit goes losing the rest of functions, and ends up not reading anything at all.

If instead there is no noise, and disk does not spin at all , then there is a faulty motor, or the motor micro-switch is bad. This situation is far less common than the lens problem.

Try first using a CD/DVD or Blue ray lens cleaner disk to clean the lens. If that does not work you will need to disassemble the drive , and clean lens directly with q tips and isopropyl alcohol, or to replace the the whole drive unit.

Acer Internal DVD RW Drive not working for "written" dvds.

The quality of the writable CD can make a big difference, and maybe run a CD driver cleaner as well.

Another thing to try is to write the CD at a lower speed, not the driver maximum, this can help with less quality CDs as well.
