Question about Garden

Open Question

My Toro 17-44 HXL Model # 71228 was running just fine. I got off to move a bike and when I tried to start it up it would not start. It would try to start and then it would bang and then die. I checked the air filter, fuel filter, oil and everything looks ok. I let the mower sit over night and then tried to start it again. It started right up without any problems. After about 5 minutes it died again and when I tried to start it the same thing happened and it wouldn't start. It tries to start and then it bangs and shuts off.

SOURCE: Engine dies for no apparent reason after several hours running

Sonds like a sensor putting out an error code to shut it down ( like a fatal error code) Prolonged vibrations and heat can make cam sensors, maf, o2 senosr do craz ythings which will actuate a govener and stall your car...could also be you fuel pump causually telling you that "hey im bout to die".I dealership can run a stress test (if you will) to check the longivity of the pump...
Good luck hope this helps :)

SOURCE: toro personal pace mower 5 yrs old only runs 10-15 seconds.

Was gasoline left in the tank during off season? Sometimes gas will break down and clog the jets in the carb. The priming bypasses the carb so when you put fuel in by pumping the bulb it runs, but dies becasue no additional fuel is coming through the carb after the primed fuel is burned off. Sounds like you need to clean the jets in the carb and in the future, use Stabil in gasoline to keep it from breaking down.

SOURCE: My LawnBoy mower 195 cc 4 cycle that starts fine.

It sounds as though it is starved for fuel. Check the pinhole vent in the fuel filler cap. if it is plugged, the engine will still draw fuel, until a vacuum is pulled on the tank, resulting in no fuel. If this doesn't fix you. check for adequate fuel at the carb, and wirk either forward or backwards from that point, depending on what you find. I'm betting on the vent!
Try it; it may be just the thing!

SOURCE: john deere 42 inch,17.5 hp-was running good then

have you had a look at carb side of things as it may be having fuel starvation probs.. the fuel in line not getting through jets or float chamber cleanly.. also the tank might have contamination from rust or debris..

I have a Toro HXL 16-44. Starts but then shuts right off after initial try, then will not start up again at all. Just turns over, never starts up.

Your fuel needle is not closing , allowing too much fuel... there needs to be a proper fuel air ratio. Have you recently had the unit serviced? Someone mess with the carburetor itself?

The float needs to be adjusted so it closes the needle sooner

I can start my Toro 14-38 HXL riding mower but it will only run for about 30 seconds I have changed the fuel filter any other suggestions?

will it run longer on 3/4 choke?

Sounds like you need to clean the Carburetor Jet.
Has the mower been running fine all season and just start this or have you not run it in months?
Did you run it out of gas totally and then this problem ocured?

Hello, my Toro 14-38 hxl (model 71193)is not

I have 12-38 hxl, and if my grass is too tall, it will wedge under the cutting deck and lock the blades, and the belt willstart smoking white. With the motor off look under and see if you do not have something stuck (branches or grass). Also, check your sparkplug.
