Computer disconnects from wireless router

My computer, which is connected by cable to the router, keeps getting disconnected (and reconnects automatically) after awhile. This is a problem for me cus im playing an online game and when this happens i have to relog to the game. Is this a problem with my router or software?

I have the same problem, I share the internet with my 2 housemates, they use the wireless mode for their laptops but Im connected using a cable, my computer disconnects very briefly (couple of seconds) and that causes me to disconnect from the game (and Ventrilo) and happens frequently at times but less at other times . . very frustrating

My router is the Belkin G Plus MIMO Wireless Router

    model # F5D9230-4

my ISP is Virgin Media . . . got the internet connected to the modem and the modem connected to the router.

I thought at first that the problem has to do with the router Setup . . what I do is turn ON the UPnP setting . . set the router to wireless with Protected Mode Off . . setup the wireless network security to WPA-PSK . . turn OFF the Firewall . . but it still happens . . however i noticed that it happens less when Wireless mode is OFF . . but still happens

This could be a problem with the router. It sounds like there is a timeout that is not set properly. What is the make/model/serial # of the router? Who is your broadband provider? This information will help diagnose the problem further.

Why does my acer aspire 5315 wifi keep disconnecting and reconnecting?

hello sir.

Reason :-
1.Make sure your acer aspire is in range.
2.cheack is it your wireless disconnecting and reconnecting or is it your internet disconnecting and reconnecting.
3.Are you facing this issue with any other machine or is this the only one.
If this is the only computer in which your wifi connection is dropping then there is issue with wireless connectivity.

1.Turn of your router and modem and then check the wireless connectivity.
If issue still persist then:-
2.Create a new network name and wireless security key and then connect to it:- Now check the wireless stability whether is it still disconnecting an reconnecting or is it stable now.

If issue still persist then bright your laptop close to router and then check wifi disconnecting any more or not if not then change the channel to 1 or 11 from your wireless router page.

Let me know if this worked for you or not.
If worked then please rate my solution.

My wireless products (ipad, iphone, laptops) pick up my wireless d-link router, but will not let me log on. Why? I lost connectivity out of nowhere. Called cablevision. They verified it wasnt a modem...

1. Clean cookies, history, temporary internet, etc, using software CCleaner (free).
2. Turn off the computer, disconnect the d-link router from the computer (disconnect the cable from router to the computer).
3. Turn on the computer, wait until desktop
4. Reconnect the cable router, to the computer.
So, you refresh router and the computer connections.

"Check signal cable" appears on the screen. I have disconnected

The cable that connects the MONITOR to the COMPUTER is loose or disconnected. Check the monitor cable at both ends. (not the wireless switch, router or modem).

Cannot connect

If you're trying to connect wirelessly, you probably need to disconnect from the wireless network in the wireless network manager and reconnect. This will force you to re-type the wireless access key. If you have the correct wireless key, it should connect and give you an IP.

If you're connecting using a network cable, your network connection settings may need to be change so that your computer will get an IP address automatically.

Hello fieldon68, & to all the rest with the same problem.

There are many things that could be wrong, but intermittant discounnects sounds very much like a interverance from another wireless device. (ie phone, cell, etc)

To try to address this issue, follow the steps below:
Note : The steps below are applicable only for Belkin routers.
  1. Open an Internet Explorer window on your computer and type in in the address bar. This will take you to the Belkin router's web based configuration page. If you are not able to open the page click here.
  2. You will get a login page. Leave the password blank. Click Submit ( unless you created a password, then enter that).
  3. On the left side of the page, click Channel and SSID below Wireless .
  4. The wireless channel on the Belkin router is set to Auto by defualt. Change the wireless to a static channel. Click Apply Changes .
  5. Click Logout in the top right hand corner.
Note: The wireless card in the computer will automatically detect the change in channel number on the router and will update the channel on the card.
CauseYou get disconnected wirelessly mainly due to an environmental interference. When the wireless channel is set to auto, the router will cycle to though channels when it detects significant interference. When the router changes channel the wireless connection will reset itself and disconnect all wireless clients connected to the router. Wireless signals are prone to interference from cordless phones and electrical appliances (e.g., vacuum cleaners, microwave ovens). This is one of the more popular reasons Belkin wireless connections can drop. Good Luck Mark P.S. Please leave a rating.

Reset the modem while the router is plugged into it. Do this by disconnecting the power to the modem and then reconnecting.

Laptop keeps disconnecting then connecting every so often.

Has the computer ever stayed on long enough to connect to the internet?

Is there a wired computer working when attached to the router?

If not, if possible please try to connect the laptop wired to the router as a test and tell me if it works.

I am trying to determine if your router works with the internet before considering the wireless connection simplying the initial problem. Once the router works wired is time to try the wireless. Once the wireless works unsecured you may want to change the router and wireless adapter to secure the wireless network. So this can be a three step process.
