Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

6 Answers

I have a Xerox Docucolor 12 printer which uses a RIP to process files you send from your computer in order to print them in the Docucolor. The RIP model is Splash G640 in an Apple G5 power pc. I have connected as I normal do and installed all the software needed. I have designated an IP address to the RIP and installed the RIP to my computer using the required software and assigning the RIP ip. Both computer and RIP are communicating succesfully (I prove this by sending a ping thru command prompt) But when I print in the computer selecting this printing, the document wont get to the splash (You can see when the file gets to the RIP on the RIP's display) Nothing happens on the splash nor the printer. The splash seems to be working fine, actually I managed to print succesfully the first time I tried the RIP , but when I took it to another location it wouldnt work anymore.. Please!! help!!!!!!!!!! Please!!! help me out!!!!

    Hello Micro,

    Thanks for the reply,

But I have tried several times to reboot but it doesnt help.

If you think of something else please let me know

  • paco_rdz Jul 20, 2009

    Yes, the same day.

    I have tried almost everything.

Reboot both, load system software again,

The file just gets to my pcs spool but not to the splash.

    thanks

  • paco_rdz Jul 20, 2009

    Yes printer and RIP,
Yes I am able to print test pages from the RIP.
The problem is that the file dont get to the RIP and this is not a cable, connection or something that can be fixed with a reboot.
Its beyond that and I can not imagine what it is.
    I appreciate your help Micro

  • paco_rdz Jul 20, 2009

Yes I think it could be something in the operating system of the Splash.
What I am trying to do is to install the printer in the Splash and then share printers with my desktop computer through a network.
It helped before when I had a similar problem with the same equipment, but now is not working and I think it is because the OS wont let me enable Samba sharing.
Do you know if this might be the reason?

  • paco_rdz Jul 21, 2009

    Hello buddy,

Yes I am able to do ping test.

There is no problem with buff memory, ram or hard drive.

    This case is very odd.

    Thanks for your help

  • paco_rdz Jul 22, 2009

    Thanks for your effort,

What I am doing right now is re installing the Mac OS X with an apple technician and reinstalling the software Splash G640,

    Lets see if this works,

    Thanks anyway!

  • paco_rdz Jul 26, 2009

No problem fixed with new OS software and splash software.

There is a very odd situation here...

I am being able to print in a particular way, which is not the normal.

I install the docucolor 12 printer in the Splash G5 with the driver through AppleTalk, and then I select the option to share printers. Then in the user computer I look for the ip address of splash to see share folders and printers and it appears the printer which I drag to my printers of the user computer.

This way I am able to print from the user!!! but 2 problems. It takes a long time and the worst, when I restart the computer, it would not print anymore because it says that the printer can not be connected.

If I delete the printer and start the process again of installing the shared printer from the Splash, it would work.

I dont know what to do anymore!

I tried to manually assigned the IP address to both user computer and Splash and still didnt work.

I have a Fiery 1 X-12 Server connected to a DocuColor 12 printer.
I have used XP, Vista 32 bit, and Windows 7 32 and 64 bit.
The only one I found that works is Vista 32 bit. Windows 7 does not have drivers that will work for the servier. There is one for mine, but it did work for a limited time only on certain softwares Print Shop, ect....
If you go to the Xerox web site it is possible the driver may not be there for your operating system. I do not know which one you have.
XP does work the best so far as far as I know. As time progresses the old, and very old computers do not have updated drivers in order for them to work. They will not be ugraded, they are too old.

Find a driver in the Xerox Site, find the best and closest driver client to the XP version and install them. It might be two or three.
You can have a install Xerox menu once you download it and install it. You are on a good way to make this work.
When you finally do the tcip install, print to the server and see if the Doc 12 prints right away. If it does not check the server to see if the file is sitting in there. Make sure you set up the server so that it can capture your files, the server takes it and prints it up automaticly. You can make a folder on the server so you can make it print to a "Hold" que.

When you finish installing these, when you print to the server, the Doc 12 should be printing the test print page.

I know there are many other avenues in order to check the connection to the server and there are other "talented and Know how Individuals" in this field of expertise. One good source is to call the local Xerox Sales people, they might have anaylist around with a good network of people that can have answers to thiese unique types of problems.
One thing to remember is this machine is old, and for the most there are many Xerox people who have worked in this specific area in the field that have retired and are long gone.
This Xerox Doc 12 is a very good printer and has been one of the best in quality and realiablility.
This color copier will be very hard to beat and one of the "Best Models Xerox has ever had.
One good thing about this model is, you can still get a service contract with Xerox, and it is worth the cost.
Good luck!

Make sure are drivers are updated, make sure all programs are allowed throught firewall. Then check your print settings, and make sure nothing is in Printer Que.
Pc ip and Scanner must be on a matching network.
Try using connection wizard or reinstalling the print program

Are these computers and the Xerox Docucolor 12 printer connected to a switch (NOT A CHEAP Ehrernet hub)?

If it's a switch, then reboot it (during non-business hour) to clear the MAC address table.......just is case it's full.

Check the "print server" computer for drop packets info.
PING with high packet size with -t
keep pinging and do a print with graphic to the Xerox Docucolor 12 printer.

Per http://www.xerox.com/downloads/usa/en/b/brochure_splashg630901.pdf

Do you have beyond

384-MB system memory
512-MB frame buffer memory

Is the 40-GB Ultra ATA/66 hard drive (or whatever you got in there now) has enough free space to handle the incoming print.

Ping the Xerox Docucolor 12 printer and do a test print to check for packet loss.

If I come across more information the I will append to this post.

Good luck

May I ask what is the final fix for your problem?

After the fresh software install does it work?

Since you moved the G5 box,I will try the following.

Please open up the G5 case and see is the Slash card is SEATED firmly on the motherboard slot.

Depending on your Slash card. There may be two ports on the Splash card.

If it does has dual port.....please try the second port.

Check the Slash card and the RIP card (inside printer) for any fragment of broken capacitor or chips
(just to save you time on this troubleshooting)

Let's make sure the network side does not has a duplicate IP address.

Remove the Ethernet cable from the Splash G5.

Ping the Splash G5 IP address.

I hope you get 100% packet loss......otherwise you are having a duplicate IP address problem.

I will put my thinking cap on for other easily overlook items.

    Good luck.

    Is the default gateway reachable?

Please ping default gateway from the Splash G5.

Do a traceroute from the Splash G5 to the workstation.

This happens on occasion, reboot the RIP server. You are definitely communicating but for some reason the RIP server has stopped responding. After you have rebooted the server make sure RIP is running on it, then try to print again. Should work fine.

Thanks
Tim

Ok just making sure, and you mean you have rebooted both machines in the mix as well as the printer right? Also, on the server you have verified that RIP is currently running? You say it worked one time right, was that a separate day or was it the same day as the other print jobs, one worked one didnt kind of thing?

    Thanks

    Tim

When you say reboot both you are talking about the printer and the server correct, not the server and the machine you are trying to print from? Can you send a test page from RIP to the printer?

  • Tim Grayson
    Tim Grayson Jul 20, 2009

I understand, if you can ping the server that the RIP is residing on then its talking, as you already know. It sounds like the RIP is not picking up the print request. It could be something on a much lower level in the operating system which you may have to do a full reinstall to correct =(. I wish I was there in person, you could go into the terminal on the mac box and tinker around, but its way too hard to say what it could possibly be.

So sorry =(, sounds like you've tried all the steps that are anywhere near straightforward.

    Tim

Printing to a Xerox DC12/DCS50

you can't print via serial to it. You will have to check the settings in your rip to see what the ip address is. Lights will blink all the time to indicate it is on a network, its just not talking to it. Then you go into your add printers section click the + sign and it should come up in there if the ip address is in line with your mac ip
