Question about RCA DRC8060N DVD Recorder

New discs reported as bad discs

RCA DRC 8052NC DVD recorder reports new discs as bad discs. It has been recording from scheduled events just fine. Now it doesn't recognize new discs as valid to record to. I purchased another set of discs just to make sure i didn't have a bad batch of discs. Same problem. This unit was sent in 6 months or so ago with an inability to read any discs at all. Will this problem be related and will I again have to send it out for repairs?

Re: New discs reported as bad discs

It sounds like it could be the start of the same problem have you tried using a lense cleaning disk to clean off any dust are you making sure the air vents arent blocked on the unit as overheating can cause this problem but first try lense cleaner and if the air vents are not blocked then you will find it is the same prob as before they are known for this fault and i have came across several that need replacing at the end of the day you need to think is it worth keep getting repaired paying out for this all the time or would you be better of buying a new one as it is the second time it has played up i would replace whole unit as this problem looks like it will keep happening hope this is some help to you good luck

MY RCA DRC 8320n DVD Recorder/VCR Combo will not accept tapes. DVD works fine. RCA help line is a joke. I will never buy another RCA product.

Yah, you're going to be taking that in for repair. I worked for couple of years at RCA / Sony / Panasonic / ... and 60 more names - service center. When a VHS Cassette loading mechanism doesn't work - it probably needs loading motor or loading gear, something repaired. At the cost of DVD and VHS combos these days I'd call it Not Worth Repair (NWR) out of the starting gate. At least $50 an hour, at least 2 hours ... that's beyond the cost of a new one.

For anyone who has an RCA DRC 8335 with dvd Recorder, here is a suggestion.
If your tapes have been recorded in SLP Mode, om another player, I can tell you they will NOT play on this thing!!
So, merely take another VCR, and a blank tape, Place the blank tape into the RCA DRC 8335 VCR side, and then, go to its Set-Up Menu, and go to OUTPUT. On the "ACTION BAR"Change the the RCA's output to "FRONT" and then, play the VCRr you stuck on top of the RCA!!
When the inage on the "Source tape is shown,
Record onto the RCA, in SLP Mode, Now, it will play, just fine.
Hope this helps. Jon (Found BY Accident!!)

RCA DRC 8052NB will not read discs

This sound like a problem with the laser read circuits and it may be solved with a simple cleaning and using compressed air to clear the unit of debris .To do this you must take off the top cover of your unit by taking out the screws and lifting the top off. To clean the laser head you should use cotton swabs and isopropyl alcohol. put a small amount on the cotton swab and rub the swab gently back and forth over the head, until it seems bright and shiny.Check the transport carriage for dust and debris and also the gears. all these must be clean for proper operation. You may want to put a little lithium grease on the gears and guide rails for smooth operation. All this should be done in minute amounts so you do not over do it and cause more problems. If all this fails to allow you to use you disc player, Then you probably have a worn out laser sensor and will have to have it replaced. If under warranty send it in and if not try to find the part number and order it and either take in to a service center for repairs or do it yourself. Hope this helps you with your problem.

Recording Error "Can not record on this disk/E4 54037380

I had that exact same problem. I would record a bunch of dvds with no problems for months and then some and one day it doesn't work. Only this showed up E4 EA03738B. However I've found the solution. Instead of going out and returning the recorder or buying new dvds just purchase a Laser Lense Cleaner. It's a dvd cleaner. Works like a charm.

Model DRC 8310 RCA VCR/DVD player/recorder combo.

Did you put a splitter onto the cable signal? If yes, the signal is attenuated to much and there simply isn't enough signal for the recorder to decode. Call your cable company and request a signal amplifier be placed on your line. It's usually free.

Dvd willnot record, keeps saying defect in disc

I had the same problem and just figured it out about 5 minutes ago. I have been trying 16x discs. I guess it can only read 8x max dvd+r discs. Give that a try. The hardest part was finding 8x discs. I found some at K-mart on closeout, 15 for 6.00 plus tax. Good luck to you.
