Accel Graphics AG300 Graphic Card

Rev. 18 on DEC Alpha's

By 2Pansy - usenet poster

We are running Pro-E on Windows NT 3.51 and am looking to upgrade to
Rev 18. We are running on DEC Alpha XL266's with Accel Graphics AG300
cards. Has anyone been running R18 on this type of config and if so how
have the results been?

We have 18 running in alpha with AG300, some on NT4 and others on 3.51.
Because 18 is the last version that will run on 3.51, we decided to up
NT at the same time. However we bumped into a few walls on the way.

NT4 will not load from a cady style CD. We need 4 new CD's to finish.

Pro/E 18 needs TCP/IP service to run on NT 3.51 and 4.0.

AG300 video drivers must be upgraded to NT 4.0.

NT4/18 is 20 megs larger than NT3.51/17 and on our 64 meg systems, we
have 8 megs left for parts. You may be looking at more ram.....

We opted to install NT service Pack II. works fine. FX32..fine.

The speed Pro/E runs at is somewhat of a loss, however we have noticed
that if you load pro and exit, then reload the speed is increased. The
speed is not as fast as 17, but the number of crashes is reduced to
almost
none. The time you spend in sketcher (auto-dimensioning) is reduced a
lot.

95% of our mapkeys worked. Preset lights from 17 failed. The sel by menu
|
names, pops up a window and mapkeys that use generic names need
redesigning.
Lights work fine, you just need to make new ones. They fixed the print
landscape problem and trail macro's need redesigning if you use them.

They added depth cue to NT and spin with objects, spin with edges. All
three
will make your display speed un-acceptable. We are thinking about upping
the AG300 to AG2500 soon. Meanwhile we turn off the fluff.

We have not had any problems building parts or assemblies, wish it were
faster, but all in all it feels real sound sofar.

We're running this configuration.  We also have 192 MB RAM installed and are
using this machine as a domain master browser and MS Exchange server.

A slight loss of performance has resulted from upgrading to version 18.0.  But
it is quite minor compared to the pummeling our old HP 9000's took.  They've
practically been brought to their knees.

We are running NT4 on alpha 275 and 300, works great.
TCP/IP is a must.
FX32/NT4 works great too.
AG300 needs new drivers from AccelGraphics for NT4.

I'm running the same configuration, except 128Mb.  I'm informed that NT4
will not run on this hardware (some caching problem ??).  So, r18 will be
the last one, or not ?
