Flip camcorder - all software gone

Bought a flip camcorder on ebay and everything just worked fine. camera installed itself on my computer, I was able to record and send it to my computer. when i deleted my old files with the trash button on the camera everything was gone! no software anymore, nothing. flip support suggested:
Please follow these steps to format your camcorder on your PC:

1. Connect your camcorder to your computer
2. Close any window that pops up asking what you would like to do
3. Open My Computer.
4. Right click on the Flip Video icon.
5. Click on Format.
6. Under File System, open the drop down list and choose FAT
7. Click Start and then click OK.

After this is done, please go to the following link to re-install the updated software: http://www.theflip.com/app/prius/37/update/
nothing helped! my flip is only recognized as a usb device, no flip icon anymore.
when i open the updated software i always get: camcorder not connected. what can i do?

Perform the suggested format, using the device as recognised on USB - don't worry about it not being the flip icon.

SOURCE: Flip Ultra HD Error upon pluging in the camera

I got around this error by moving my library to another location. I created a new folder, then went to Preferences->Library and chose a new location (the new folder I created). Flipshare moved all the data, and after restarting the program the problem disappeared. Not a great solution, a workaround.

Want to install the software for the Flip Ultra Hd for Windows 7 64 bit. How do I do it? Where do I get the software?

Actually I recently spoke to Flip Video about the same thing since I need to get a new computer which will be Windows 7 64 bit.
They said to just plug the camcorder into the computer USB 2 port and the camcorder will open FLIPSHARE on your computer screen and will download the updates itself unless you stop it from doing so.

Camcorder shows connected but it's greyed out in Flipshare

Hi I had the same problem and after hours of annoying trying found a solution.

In my Case the Flip camcorder had allocated itself to drive J:\ which was an already in use network drive on my PC. So it was trying to use the same dirve letter.

I went into Windows Disk Manager ie Control Panel > Computer Management > Disk Management and in here changed the allocated drive from J:\ to a spare drive letter on my PC (In my case I chose V:\)

Straight awat Explorer could see the Camera and a restart of Flipshare software had everything working perfectly

Flip Video Won't Turn On

For the Flip Ultra - Take out batteries you should see a flat somewhat square piece of metal with a small black piece sticking up from it. Take a pencil and push the black piece down wait a few minutes then try turning your flip back on.

Flip share video application unexpectedly quits

Solved - I had the same problem.

The original "Flip Video For PC" software that came preinstalled on my Flip worked fine. But after being nagged to "upgrade" to FlipShare, I experienced the same crash problem mentioned here. Even worse, the FlipShare installation nuked the original program files from the Flip!

In my case, I think my computer's processor did not meet the minimum system requirements of the newer FlipShare software. The original "Flip Video For PC" software requires a 2Ghz P4 or higher; the FlipShare software says it requires a dual-core 4Ghz or higher. So when the FlipShare software tries to load the ippvideodecoder.ax module on an under-powered processor, it just crashes. Bad design.

I bet that most of the people posting this same problem here have processors that are "borderline".

Anyway, here's how to get the original Flip Video software back and re-install it on your computer:

Disclaimer: I assume no responsibility if you screw up your Flip or lose your videos. I can only tell you this method worked for me.

1) Use Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs to uninstall FlipShare and 3vix.

2) Download "Flip Video For PC" v3.7 from here:
http://www.theflip.com/app/prius/37/update/

3) Follow the written instructions here for formatting your Flip and reinstalling the software:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYc8N3dmxhU

Important: this guy tells you how to back up any existing videos on your Flip BEFORE you format it.

After formatting, I had some initial trouble with the installation not finding my (empty) Flip. Here's a workaround: the installation creates a folder called "FlipVideo Updater Support Files", and within that a subfolder called "files_to_install". Copy the entire contents of that subfolder to the root of your Flip. Re-run the installation and it should now be recognized.

4) Bonus: once you've got the old software reinstalled and working, you may want to disable the annoying "Upgrade To FlipShare" nag screen that bugs you every time you run the software. Simply browse your Flip and delete the following file:

[drive letter]\System\VIEWER\PD\checkForUpdate.txt

No more nag screen!

I hope this info is helpful to those who experienced the same problem. Flip tech support people are absolutely clueless.

best,
JohnB
